My neighbor is 1oo, and just bought a new S550, OK at 100 she does have a driver, think driving Miss Daisy, but she picked it out, the car, not the driver, and is very proud of it. Still plays bridge at the club weekly, and after her afternoon party she had for her friends, she baked me a plate of scones from scratch yesterday.Yum...

I'll never see 100...:(

I walked her out of the office, as I was headed out as well, and this is her car.

Nice ride. Oh yeah.....she's 93.

Perhaps her back discomfort stems from carrying her line of credit.

Or perhaps she is just living life to the fullest no matter her age. BTW there are offers out there to lease this Jaguar at $600 a month. Glad to see someone at 93 spending money on fun. You can't take it with you, even in a Jag convertible.

We are shopping for a new car, and one of the main issues is whether we can get in and out of it easily. We currently have a small, low-slung red car, and we love it, but it takes some time to maneuver ourselves in and out of it (it would be a bit easier if it were a convertible with the top down all the time), and my partner keeps hitting his head, while I have caused more pain to my knees squeezing into the driver's seat than I have running on a tennis court. I wonder if there is a direct line between the rising sales of high SUVs and the aging of the American car owners.

Interesting thought. After I got my Miata, I got a 4Runner that I could actually get in and out of.

I have problems flexing at the hips, so having a non-existent door sill helps a lot.

Whoa! Slow your roll PK. My line of credit comment was intended as nothing more than a witticism relative to a high-end sports vehicle, never as a negative personal judgement. Apologies if it came off that way.

I've always liked nice cars which isn't the best way to spend money. I've owned Mercedes, BMW and Lexus vehicles. When I was much younger it was American brands. For the last 15 years its just been SUVs. Our roads are in such bad shape I prefer the ride of SUVs and have few issues with front end alignments from potholes. My current brand is GMC and Lincoln. Whether a car or SUV, I don't see the value in a $100,000 + Mercedes or BMW vehicle as compared to a $75-$80 K GMC or Lincoln. I'd spend the money if there was but I sit in a $125,000 Mercedes a friend of mine has and I think "ok, what am I missing".

A patient of mine came in with a bit of back pain and she was not sure whether she hurt it bowling or line dancing. She seemed to be doing fine otherwise, but she was having difficulty getting in and out of her new car.

All these references to SUVs are making me wince. I have kept this to myself and a few friends up until now, but the reason I was not at the forum lunch in DC this year was because someone from out of town driving her brother's Land Rover unexpectedly cut in front of my poor fully loaded 6-cylinder 2003 Hyundai Sonata with only 42,000 miles on it the morning of December 24th trying to enter a one-way street from the wrong end and totaled it.

Before anyone starts worrying, I wasn't injured. (I hurt my back the following week for unrelated reasons.) And I'm renting a severely underpowered subcompact (2014 Ford Focus) in the meantime, 2/3 on my insurer's dime and 1/3 mine. But I was too busy dealing with the fallout from the accident to go out of town in a car I'm barely used to anyway. I had to download the owner's manual just to figure out where most things were.

My adjuster just went over the numbers with me this afternoon. I've started looking for a replacement (another Hyundai of the same make, options, and age). But I was doing nothing wrong and bam, my world's been turned upside down because some idiot in an SUV wasn't paying attention. (She told the police she didn't see me.)

Big sigh. A woman in an SUV. No more needs be said.

I have it in for people in SUVs period now. I've had too many piloted by men roar away from me in snow thinking 4wd/AWD will save them when their brakes are no better in the snow than anyone else's. And this...

When I look at my car, or at the photo I took that day before the police arrived, I want to cry.

Sorry to hear about your accident and glad you are well. I have had several real bad wrecks. You know the kind of wrecks that people say" You are lucky you weren't hurt" when you do not feel very lucky at all. Hope you are motoring around in your own vehicle real soon.

Thank you for the well wishes. I was lucky that the airbag didn't deploy.

I'll be down your way-ish looking at another 2003 Hyundai Sonata later on today. This will be the first car I've looked at other than the 2006 and 2009 Sonatas the local Hyundai dealer has in stock. By 2006, Hyundai had changed the body, so they're actually somewhat different cars, but the salesman I spoke to didn't know that. I'm hoping to have a new car by next week.

Well that sucks...but I always say count your blessings. I know it is not always easy to say when things seem to be stacked against you, but you weren't injured, and that's the main thing. I'll send you some positive thoughts and prayers your way. Take care...

Go granny! I'm no car nut but I think I a sexy car when I see it. I hope you gave her a high five. I say enjoy what you got when you got it. Like someone else said, you can't take it with you. People say I am crazy cause I've spent a bit seeing Madonna, on her albums and other merch but it makes me happy when I go through my many boxes of memoriablia. They are chrrrished once in a lifetime memories that can never be replaced. One of the biggest is my ticket stub for her rescheduled 9/11 show.

Hugs,

Greg

Back in the "old" days, Chrysler had a car with swivel seats to help you get in or out. Check out Google for the 1960 Chrysler Imperial.
