I work in a very casual environment. I bring my dogs to the office with me 2 to 3 times a week. Other co-workers bring their dogs also. We have doggy treats upfront for everyone and poop bags by the smoking area. The rules are pretty clear (I wrote them): well behaved dogs only, no barking, no accidents, clean up after your dog, dogs must me groomed and clean; if at anytime someone becomes allergic, uncomfortable, aggressive, or other doggy issues the dogs at work policy can be revoked. Dogs have been allowed in the office here for about 5 years (when I became the boss) with little issues.

I have noticed over the years around the are more businesses are allowing employees to bring their dog or pet to the workplace.

  1. Do you agree with this policy?
  2. Can you bring your pet to work?
  3. If you can bring your pet to work do you?

1. Love it, I am jealous. Probably one of the top perks I would ever want at a job.

2. No, they don't - but the sob's I work with would say they were allergic even if they weren't.

3. I would, but I am worried he might try and "mark the territory" too.

  1. Do you agree with this policy? I like the flexibility and I like the exceptions and caveats as well.
  2. Can you bring your pet to work? No, but in my firm, we all work from home whenever we want - so I get to be and play with my pets (including my cat and Koi). Others get to be closer to their children. Those who like an office environment get a hotel cube.
  3. If you can bring your pet to work do you? I can't bring my pet to work, but honestly, even if I could, I would rather spare them the commute and stress of being in an office environment where they won't have the liberties they do at my home.

Do you agree with this policy? Mostly No, I was bitten by a dog quite badly as a child. I enjoy dogs occasionally in the local coffee bar, but every day would be too much for me.

Can you bring your pet to work? No. I am retired now, and I believe the policy is the same.

If you can bring your pet to work, do you? Yes, if I had a dog. I would bring him/her once in a while. But, I mostly agree with Truereview. I do have a cat, who, of couse, has a mind of his own.

  • Do you agree with this policy? As stated in the paragraph above the questions, I do.

  • Can you bring your pet to work? I have mostly retired from a major west-coast university; the official policy is you may not; however (and this appears to be on a department-by-department basis), so long as it doesn't cause problems and others don't object, people sometimes do. Including a former boss of mine, who had me dog-sit in his office while he was teaching. (which I enjoyed!)

  • If you can bring your pet to work do you? Well, since I was only proxy-pop to pooch (my ex's welsh terrier), I wasn't bringing my pet to work, but I did on occasion, when my ex was traveling and the four-footed friend was getting on in years and need some more frequent attention.

It would depend on the dog. Some of my dogs have been too restless, and I would find their presence distracting. My current dog would be happy to sleep in my lap all day, so he wouldn't be a problem in my office, but he would in the classroom. However, nowadays I work online from home, so I ALWAYS have my dog with me at work. (I just finished eight hours at work, and my dog spent most of that time sleeping next to me.)

I once hired an escort who let his dog join us in bed--not a good idea.

One of the abiding charicatures of the British army and the RAF was of the commanding office of the regiment or squadron having a labrador or golden retriever that sat under his desk is his (always 'his' at the time) office. And it was a caricature that was based on lived experience!

I work in food service so no kitty to work for me. I'm jealous that some of you get to bring your pups to work. If I could I would bring Spanish Gentleman with me to work. I think he'd enjoy the warmth of the heating oven or espresso machine lol

Hugs,

Greg

Can I bring a puppy if he's house broken? I promise he won't hump your leg!

When I owned the office I would regularly bring one or another of the dogs into the office. Now that I am employee, I wish I could bring them but I am afraid the administrator would have a coronary. It is a medical office so that they might site some statute which prohibits it.

When it was my office, I would bring one of the dogs with me and sometimes would ask the patient if it was okay for the dog to join us. If I sensed any hesitation, I left the dog in my office. Some people really enjoyed the dog, who was very well behaved and would ask for a head scratch and then lie down next to the patient. I had one patient go so far as to ask for the dog to be present when they heard her barking in my office. A cat was hanging out in the back and probably got her excited The dog not the patient.

1) I agree wholeheartedly. I've worked at places that allowed it, before I had my dog, and enjoyed the visits.

2) no, they do not. I think the company would, but the office building is owned by a much more conservative firm and I don't think they'd ever allow it.

3) nonetheless, I did once. She was fine, most people were excited to meet her when they heard I was bringing her, but someone from facilities came up about 10:30 and told me (nicely and apologetically) she had to go. That was right about the time a somewhat pushy co-worker was trying to introduce her to another co-worker (who really wasn't interested), I had to get a bit forceful to get him to back off so I could take her home before I got in more trouble.
