Remember when any discussion of a man shaving referred to shaving his face? (Apparently, by today's standards, that put us one step ahead of cavemen.) Then came word that good grooming habits meant paying attention to your pubes. And while we always knew that some guys (bodybuilders in competition, athletes for aerodynamics) shaved their bodies, that wasn't something most of us would ever do. Right?

Fast forward to this September: Men's Health magazine surveyed 4,044 men and discovered that 68 percent trim their armpit hair--52 percent said they do it for aesthetics; 16 percent said they do it for athletic reasons. The report speculates that your ancestors--the aforementioned cavemen--might have needed armpit hair to trap their sweaty scent for attracting a mate, but that you don't. (I know, I know, there are armpit lovers in the room who will protest.)

Now comes word--posted yesterday on the Men's Health website--that men have taken to shaving their legs. The magazine did an informal survey of its Facebook followers and, of 580 men who responded, 33 percent admitted that “I don’t shave clean, but I do use a trimmer to cut it down.” Another 15 percent are shaving completely. So of the response group, nearly half are doing something about their leg hair.

Well, call me a caveman, but on the occasions when I have run my hand over chest (or butt!) stubble, it has not been a turn on. Smooth legs? Nude pits? I might think I was in bed with a... well, you know.

What about your own practices and preferences?

I'm fairly hairy and in the last couple years my body hair has started to have a shaggy old-guy look. So I clip it sometimes. I don't clip it very short - I still look hairy, but I don't have the Yeti look. Another thing I like about it is that the cuts in my muscles show more when I am clipped. When I clip, I do everything - chest, arms, legs, stomach, pits, pubes. It's a really easy thing to do, takes about ten minutes. I don't seem to know how to clip my pubes like a professional does. I have been thinking about hiring someone, but it seems unforgivably shallow to hire somebody to style your pubic hair. I don't shave my balls.

My partner likes me natural and I have to keep him happy, so I don't clip as regularly as I would like.

As I get older, it's really hard to keep on top of the eyebrows. I trim mine probably three times/week. I've stopped doing anything about my ear bristles. I like them in a strange way. I feel like I've earned the right to have ear bristles.

I trim my pubes and balls, because I like it more and prefer it with my partners also.

I lightly trim my chest and belly hair, just because it looks less unkempt but I prefer natural or lightly clipped chesthair on partners, depending on the hair pattern. Hahaha, but to be completely honest, once a hot guy is in front of me... I don't really care :D

I have always been sexually attracted to men with lots of body hair, particularly Mediterranean types. I have a moderate amount of body hair myself--my own legs were unusually hairy by the time I was 10 years old--and I have never tried to remove any of it. I don't even shave my face very often.

If one is naturally smooth, fine. I can deal with it. But the whole manscaping I find to be a MAJOR TURN OFF. I find nothing attractive about wanting to go back to ones prepubesent or however the word is spelled days.

Hugs,

Greg

I have a moderately hairy chest, which I trim once in a while to keep it tidy. I also shave my balls every blue moon. I enjoy the smooth feeling there. I sometimes trim my pubes, but not too much and not too often.

As for my taste, I do NOT like hairy men, but I get really turned on by guys with a naturally smooth upper body AND hairy legs. Lucky me, many many Czech boys are built that way: smooth chest and butt, nice pubes and blond furry legs...Paradise!

My inner curmudgeon is calling for release again.

Competitive bicyclists have been shaving their legs for decades for a slightly gruesome reason -

when you take a spill and get a case of "road rash" not having hair fold over into the scabs and itch like

hell it a feature, rather than a bug.

Competitive swimmers have also been shaving their bodies for many many years under the theory that

just slight less drag might give them the couple extra hundredths of a second advantage in a close race.

So because "real men" do it, nobody should be ashamed of it?

Well the reason I posted it was the implication that it was something *new*, as in:

As a young man, I would never have considered shaving anything but my face. I was lucky enough to have chest and belly hair that accentuated my pecs and abs in a good way- the hair lying down flat against my skin in a sexy way. During middle age it went crazy and suddenly I had furry arm, crotch and chest hair that grew as long as 6 inches. Since I was completely in the closet, I let it go with just a little trimming. Now that I am hoping to be as attractive as possible to an escort, I cut it down pretty short. Also, since I love to have my low-hangers licked and sucked, I shave my balls. I would never shave any other body area for fear of ingrown hairs. I prefer a man with enough body hair to be definitely a mature male, but draw the line at long, shaggy hair anywhere. A big, hard cock sticking out of a bush is truly drooly, right. It's the archetypical gay guy's dream.

Should I be cutting my rectal hair real short, or shaving to encourage rimming? What is your attitude to hair around a hole?

I never was very hairy to begin with so it is really not a huge deal to me. I changed my hairstyle to a really short 'caesar' cut. To keep it all consistent, I do trim the hair in my armpits and in the pubic area. To me it didn't make sense to have a really short haircut and a 'wild bush' down there. I have used a groomer in the past who would trim my pubes and my ass crack. But he since moved out of town. I am now doing it myself.

If I could find an escort or masseur who is good at grooming, I'd be interested. It is sort of hot to have a guy service you this way, as a prelude to other things.

Not "new," Honcho, but becoming more common. I did mention bodybuilders and athletes in the first paragraph of my original post ... and drew a distinction between them and most of the rest of us:

Yowza! May I borrow this great idea .. a trim, a shower and a lube.

One thing I discovered about 15 years ago is a product called, "Magic." It is a men's depilatory that does not cause a rash (but do a test area anyway), you smear it on, let it sit for 5-7 minutes and then wash off. Your skin will then be baby smooth. I use on my back, upper arms, balls, occasionally chest (when it gets out of control), upper legs and buttocks. The result looks natural and feels great. Use a good moisturizer or aloe afterwards and you are set to go! No ingrown, etc. and this was formulated to avoid these problems.

When doing back - have your buddy smear it on and then have fun in the shower to wash off.

This product is far and away much better than other depilatories and works specifically well on guys.

You can get it at CVS, etc. and Amazon.

Yep - fist class way to get rid of the hair in that area. I just reach back and spread a glop on and around (NOT inside) and the area is then perfect for activities of any kind.

Just in the last few years, I have started to get hair on my back and shoulders. I like it a lot. I would never remove it.

Extreme manscaping is a huge turn off for me. I have never understood the no pubes and no cock or ball hair look. It's just creepy on a man. I really don't care if a guy is beast like with untamed fur or has a smooth body as long as it is his natural state. If a guy is naturally smooth, a deep, plump bush on him is a hot as hell contrast. A guy with a lean, smooth torso and butt cheeks with wildly hairy legs makes me rock hard in a second. There is probably no pheromone that is more powerful than armpit aroma. Thick pit hair traps and builds up that manstink. And I love hosing down a furball with piss from head to toe, as well as his butt and pit hair. Getting soaked makes the hair look even more wild as it matted down and clinging to his body and keeps the piss aroma ( the second most powerful pheromone) right under his nose - that makes for one cock and cum crazed guy. It turns tops into bottoms.

I've been using this for about 15 years - never saw the powder form and it's a pain if you have to add water.

Get the cream - ready to go!

Is this the product you are talking about??

You may wish to read the reviews of the product on Amazon, both positive and negative. They give helpful hints. The reviews also suggest going to YouTube and checking out demonstrations.
