"the escort - who does not want to reveal his name for professional reasons"

This is the line the struck me. Well, duh. Who would want to hire his services knowing he would totally betray the professional trust? Shades of Jarec Wentworth.

  • "The escort—who does not want to reveal his identity for professional reasons, but whom we will call Ryan—says he bailed on the date with the married (to a woman) father of three because Geithner declined to use his influence to help with a housing dispute."
  • "Ryan says that he has no vendetta against Geithner specifically—instead, he just wants to publicize his case against HUD."

[emphases mine]

SMH. Just makes no sense. How's he gonna get his case publicized if his identity's concealed? Maybe someone will help him out by confirming his ID.

Why do the staff at Gawker feel it's appropriate to post the identity of the alleged john and not the alleged escort?

They probably got the story on that condition.

It's probably where he got the idea. And he had probably read about how Ted Haggard's escort lost all his business after turning in Haggard and decided to have the best of both worlds. I hope someone outs this asshole escort.

It's unfortunate that the client sent the photo. He let his vanity get the best of him. ("This escort needs to know that I'm no ordinary client. I'm fricking hot.")

So far we've got: a gay pornstar/escort, ex-military, who lives in Austin, TX, & can get $2500 for 3hrs. Any ideas?

...and a picture of a leg that may or may not be his. Wonder if he used it in an ad?

That's fucked up - the client paid half the fee upfront overnight and was respectful in all communication about setting things up. The escort is a just a terrible person. Hopefully his identity gets out so we know who to avoid.

I had the same thought, and yes, that leg could be his. So there actually are clients willing to pay that rate. I suppose price is no object for this client.

this is kind of outrageous—a total violation of confidentiality and professionalism. this sets us all back. what do you guys think?

What do I think? I think this is a terrible setback. Totally violates what everyone, client and escort, values.

Is there anything we can do to find out who this awful person is?

I'm also thinking of this poor wife of the (alleged) client.

She didn't deserve this.

What kind of awful journalist would even participate in such an awful scheme?

I see no evidence that the (alleged) client was anti-gay, harming the community (like an in the closet politician voting against gay rights bills), or acting to harm the escort.

Really folks, is there something we can do?

Agree with all the above - This sucks all the way around... One guy is already twitting it's not him and I'd guess others who are aware of it are uncomfortable. Everybody loses. I usually enjoy Gawker but they really fucked up here.

And the Gawker writer is an idiot - says Geithener "fucked with the wrong escort." The only person who was doing any "fucking with" someone WAS the escort.

Nice detective work Scorpio! I think Gawker is below slime for its disclosures. I wonder if there is more to the story or if/some all isn't true.

1. I don't find Brodie Sinclair at all attractive so wonder why anyone would pay big bucks plus airfare for his overly inked body and ugly mug. Too many other options - especially for $2,500. Or maybe Ryan isn't Brodie but someone that used the leg photo from his ad?

2. I suspect there are ways to text using someone else's phone number, but I don't know how.

3. Fed Ex doesn't verify a senders address so anyone could have sent the money and why if the sender didn't want his last name know would he be dumb enough to use a phone number that a search engine relates to him or his home address with just the name faked.

If the story was faked, I can bet the escort committed a crime (just about anything can be a crime - probably including breathing - if the government wants someone).

There are some good reminders about how we need to protect ourselves if we aren't ready to read about our hobby with our picture on the front page.

Wow if only that poor guy had searched these forums for Brodie's name in advance. Wouldn't have found one positive word. And for all the hot Rentboy ads there are in Chicago. Sad.
