youre obviously a very negative person based on this response. other escorts gave reasonable responses here already. I've emailed guys in the past who put ASK and they've told me, simple as that.

hidden agenda? that's something a burned skeptic would say. thankfully I'm not that kind of person. I like to give folks the benefit of the doubt.

Burned negative skeptic? Nah. Smart and accomplished business person that can normally identify a problem when I see it? Absolutely. I have read nothing in this thread to change my view. You have provided nothing tangible to the mix that might convince me that escorts not publishing their hourly rate can be a good thing for the customer.

Had he put the over $250 per hour figure in the first place, I could have moved on without the wasting 1 additional minute of my time and efforts and without a whole lot of additional and unnecessary frustration

I charge £80 an hour to visit a guy in a hotel which is about $130 an hour. Well under your budget. My rate is just right for me. I'm not greedy. I'm no porn star. I'm 280 miles from London and I'm not managed. I make a fantastic living from this work. I don't rip off clients, I own my own home, I have my own car. It i see 3-4 guys a day on average. I'm not "exclusive love me because I'm gorgeous" material but I'm a good looking guy with principles and one of those principles is don't bite the hand that feeds and also treat people with the same respect you expect to be treated with yourself. That's set me right for 12 years of escorting.

Steve, I honestly don't know what deej is talking about. If you go into any Walmart (or any other supermarket) in the US to buy bacon (or anything else), the price is clearly displayed. It's true there probably is not a price tag on the product itself.....but when you go to pick-up the product off the counter, the price is clearly displayed.

And if you've never been surprised once the item is scanned and you realize either the shelf-sticker is wrong or the item was moved by another shopper you're either telling a lie or very, very lucky.

If Wal-Mart (etc.) didn't *NEED* price scanners available to shoppers they certainly wouldn't go to the expense of having them. Bare bones is, after all, Wal-Mart's entire ethos.

Is it realistic to think that the only criteria for rate differential is whether it’s an incall or an outcall? Should an escort be locked into a posted weekend rate, such that he can’t charge one rate for a weekend in Ibiza and another rate for a weekend in Dayton, OH? What about charging the same outcall rate for an outcall just down the street versus one on the other side of town? An escort shouldn’t be able to charge a lower rate during slower times, such as midday, midweek, and charge a higher rate for higher demand times, such as Friday or Saturday nights? Businesses do this all the time. Why shouldn’t an escort?

I have seen a few escorts advertise lower rights for certain times of day (mostly morning, as I recall).

I believe the goal of most sales situations is to get the goods sold. Ask me is never going to be a positive for the client at best it is neutral. (Does anyone here envision a client thinking: Oh good he hasnt posted a rate that gives me the chance to write him and wait for an answer to the question of whether or not he is out of my price range.) It then falls back to the escort as to how many potential clients he loses by having Ask Me as his rate I pass all Ask Me rates. I may not be correct for all escorts, but I do believe that if an escort is going to have a competitive rate, he is going to post that to attract the cost conscious client.

I know this sounds odd, but how about you just email the escort and ASK?

if you're interested in a fella and his rate is what you can afford, then there's no harm in it

Thank you. The paranoid aversion to ASKING if he says "Ask" has always mystified me. Across 10 years of hiring I have seen so many guys' ads where I wanted their cock or ass or whatever; it said "Ask;" I did; they quoted a reasonable rate; I said "Great," saw them, had a hot time. I have not ever that I can recall been caught in a haggle, or even a too-high quote except once or twice when I then politely replied "Thanks but no thanks" and moved on to the next ad.

What is the BFD?

I'm not sure I've ever contacted an escort who had an all "ASK ME" lineup on his rates. With the slow migration out of men4rentnow, there may come a time when I have to do that. (I do think eventually men4rent now will lose out to rentmen).

I will ask that at the end of the first batch of questions. But it's pretty good information to have because if he's too expensive, there's no use wasting his time or mine.

I also like to do 90-minutes hires sometimes so I don't feel rushed, so I will often ask what's the rate for that. Some guys divide the hour rate by half and tack that on and others give something of a discount. Let's say he's $200 for an hour, he may do $275 for 90 minutes. So I ask about at times. But I'm always ready to pay half of the 60 minute rate and tack it on.

I generally ignore ads with "ask me" rates, but occasionally, if the ad is really appealing, I inquire and usually am unimpressed with the response. However, upside surprises are possible. On one occasion an active duty army guy quoted me 1000 for a 3 day weekend, and we had a blast. He was hot as hell, smokin fun in the sack, and great company in public. It was a good deed to help support one of our men in uniform. ;)

If I ask and don't receive a specific answer to my inquiry, I move on. No follow up. No more contact. He's just a time-waster to me.

In the first email, mention what you’re into, where you’re located (assuming you want an outcall), approximately when you’d like an appointment, and finally, ask what his fee is.

You couldnt have said it better. Location , what type of session , and date may all influence someones rate. Personally i dont think It would be fair to charge someone the same rate for a massage or maybe some oral play vs. someone who wanted me to bottom or do something more out of the ordinary. While many guys have a one size fits all rate lots do not .. and thats ok. If you interested in hiring the guy simply ask, if the rate is within your acceptable range go for it. If not, move on to someone else. No reason to make it more complicated than that . Anyhoo, thats my two cents. you know what they say about free advice .. sometimes its worth what you pay for it.

As expected, there are a variety of opinions on this issue. Seems to be about 60% against the "Ask Me" approach and roughly 40% that have no problem with it. I still cannot see how the "Ask Me" approach can translate into a winning business strategy for an escort. It's pretty clear that a certain percentage of potential clients are turned off by there being no rates posted.....to the point that some will not even contact the escort as a point of principle. How on earth can this be a sound business approach? Turning off prospective clients (some of whom may be flush with money) via the very advertising one is using to entice? I'm sorry....but this logic is simply lost on me.

IF (and it's a big if!) the escort is getting as much business as he needs with his 'ask me' policy - then it seems to me a sound business approach. Marc Dylan made a point earlier about charging the same rate for different services - is that fair? I have known local guys who charged more for bottoming or topping than just for oral, and I've benefitted from that approach, on occasion.

Each escorts hopefully finds what works best for his particular needs and skills.

Yeah, sort of but it depends on where you're advertising it. I have been known on occasion to place an advert in a national UK newspaper called "The Sport", which comes out on a Sunday, Wednesday and Friday in all UK Newsagents, they take escort adverts and they're advertised nationwide and your advert is sectioned into regions. I get loads of London clients from it who visit Newcastle on business and a fair few from other UK areas................. that's not the point though. .... "The Sport" is down and out services and I have a completely different number in there on a blackberry phone. That way I know they're "Sport Clients". It's a pay as you go (pre-pay) phone and is for incoming calls only. On that phone I offer priced "Services" from hand relief to the "full works". It's the language they understand. "The Sport" is £45 a day, which is about $75. Steep I know, infact for escort advertising it's very steep but from one advert I will get between 20-70 calls on the first day, about 20 the following day and about 10 the following week. A lot keep your number and ring months later when they're in the area because they know we don't advertise there on each edition because it's expensive. I put an advert in once a month and get about 10 appointments off it a month, usually 4 on the day of publication and then others filter in but they ALL want the price for the service because that's what they're used to. I adapt my service to their level and sometimes get more than I would by charging by the hour. It just depends on what they want and what they're willing to pay and because it's on a different number there is relatively little cross over from services to time based appointments.

Sport clients are told a "services" rate based on 30 minutes, most are truckers, delivery men, etc who want quick in and out.

I dont think there is an easy question as to if its fair, i stay pretty busy so i could just put 350 as my rate and thats it and have the my time is my time approach. Would it be fair to a client to charge him 350 for an hr massage with a little jo actaion at the end or a guy who just wants oral only , i dont think so. Would it be fair for me to bottom for 250 when i have no problem finding clients who will pay 300-350 no thats not fair either. What about clients who simply want companionship time like dinner or a date ? Actually i have a hard time charging anything at all for something like that , I usually just reply I dont feel right being paid to have dinner with someone but if i have a free evening down the road i will be glad to accompany them.

We all have a fiduciary responsiblity to ourselves , the escort doesnt have to settle for less than he can get and the client doesnt have to pay anymore than he is comfortable with no matter what the ask me price is . When i go to a steak house i dont get offended that some items say "market price" i simply ask the waiter the cost and can make my decision from there. Lets face it there are tens of thousands of men who hire .. an escort with a hot picture will suffer no lack of inquiries, then its a matter of working out the details. Go to ruths chris on a friday night they are packed , yet i know plenty of people who say they would never pay 50 bucks for a steak. For everyone who passes an add up because of the ask me price there is someone who will reply.

I agree. I'm not sure there is such a thing as a 'fair' price, because we all put different, personal values on things.

I think the fair price in any transaction is whatever a buyer and seller can agree on provided neither is under duress. If both parties agree to the price and leave satisfied a fair deal was struck.

I don't get offended, but I also don't order it. I figure if I have to ask, I can't afford it.

Your ad says your rates are for time only. How do you reconcile that with charging different rates for different activities?

Negotiating price on a sensitive topic in digital form (emails, texts) which would hold up in court isn't very smart in my opinion.

Seeker's point actually makes sense to me for those that are getting enough business and don't really need more than those that are responding. Same thing could be achieved perhaps more effectively by advertising a rate that is on the higher side. To me this is more effective as it will cut down on the number of people who may respond to the "Ask Me" approach but upon learning the rate, they indicate it is out of their price range. A completely non-productive call for both parties that could have been avoided.

Good example: Some of us may be aware of an escort named JJ Forte that advertises very infrequently in NYC and DC. He seems to appear 2-3 times a year with an ad in RB that runs for about a week. He is a body builder with an enormous member (pumped I think). I think he is otherwise gainfully employed and/or has a financial sponsor. Hence he only appears for very short periods very infrequently presumeably only when he needs some extra cash. In the last 3 years, I have never seen his advertised rate lower than $500/hour. I love the transparency and forthrightness. He is huge (in all respects), only does escorting very infrequently, and seems to not be interested in fielding tons of calls from punters whose hiring budget is $200 and clearly is not interested in having tons of new clients. Whilst JJ Forte may not be everyone's cup of tea, I'm sure lots of people are interested in hiring him (including me) so he is very much in demand when he is available. He effectively manages the potential flood of interested parties by publishing a non-negotiable rate of $500/hour. What could be easier than this for both JJ and potential customers? If JJ Forte took the "Ask Me" approach, he might only have 1 in 10-20 calls end up being actual hires. What a waste of everyone's time and energy.

I had not read the long thread on "411 Marc Dylan" when I wrote the above. Now I've read it, and in that context what I said may sound a bit confrontational. That wasn't the intent. You provided quite a bit more information in that other thread.

Unfortunately, it also confirmed my theory that if I have to ask I can't afford it. But if my non-existent rich uncle dies and leaves me a fortune, I'll give you a call.

It all comes down to the marketing approach that many of the escorts want to take to target his client base that suits his own needs and desires for his ideal volume. Then there are those that don't have a clue and don't give it any thought as to business that may be lost. The price (either stipulated or as "ask me ") is, or should be in my opinion, only one of many factors to consider for contacting and hiring.

I agree with Marc’s response. The fair price is what the client and escort have mutually agreed on, just like any other agreement between a customer and a contractor. As far as the particulars being discussed (email, text, etc), one should just use common sense about wording it so that you’re not asking for money to be exchanged for a specific sex act.
