Well I'm not sure who JJ Forte is but as much as I love using my hard earned money for a good time, $500 an hour I would have to be really taken to another planet and I'm not sure at my age of 58 that would happen. Anyhow with regard to the "ask me" rate issue it's been increasingly annoying. I've had my fair share of companions and know my thoughts on dollar limits. put it up front then I'll make my decision. Also, a travel rate that is mentioned but then changes when you call and oopps, it's additional where you are; I'd rather have the ask me. We're all adults for the most part. Let's treat each other that way. Thanks.

The only time I called somebody with an "ask me" rate in their ad, I ended up in a bargaining situation on the phone, the guy offered me a reduced rate when I said his quoted rate was more than I would be willing to pay, and so I met him at his reduced rate. But somehow knowing that we had haggled on a price gnawed at me and ruined the session - as I had the feeling he was rushing to get me off since he was giving a discount and didn't want to spend any more time than necessary. So I decided never to do that again. Now I'll only hire a guy who advertises a rate.

I refuse to see clients that barter down too because it makes me feel cheap and the ones who barter down are usually the ones who want the whole F***ng works

Haggling and negotiating a rate that both parties are happy with are two completely different things.

I feel that it is a COURTESY to the client to list the exact and specific rate which is why I am so upset with men4rentnow. I have always had a practice of openly stating my rates for 1 hr., 90 minutes, 2 hrs and overnights. Price is full service and all inclusive with no extra hidden charges and tip NOT expected. Rate applies to the entire metro area I am currently in. Reasonable drive time would be an hour or less in any metro area. This approach has worked great in houston, chicago and atlanta recently as well as to all of my home cities over the years (currently tampa bay). http://www.rentmen.com/mikeyusatop or http://www.rentboy.com/mikey9nola1

Wow, thanks to everyone for the spirited discussion!

To the couple of posters who basically said, "just ask, what's the big deal?", I did ask, as I stated in my original post. The problem was that this was the only time I e-mailed an "ask me" ad and the only time I never even received a response from an inquiry, even after I followed-up with a text. Every other time I've responded to an ad that included the rate, I received a prompt response.

Also, to clarify, I did include a bit about what I was looking for as well as when and where. It wasn't just "What's your rate?".

Being new to this, I guess I was just wondering if I did anything wrong by asking for the rate in the initial contact. Sounds like I didn't and it was just one of those times when the escort doesn't respond. Live and learn! :)

Thanks again for all the input!

Wow, lively and helpful conversation. I agree with those who said that if an escort charges different rates for different activities, that may be problematic. My fear is that a line has been crossed for us in the U.S. That is why so many ads are so clear that the charges are for time only. One other point that I do not believe anyone has mentioned is that when I have called, discussed what I was looking for and then "asked," it seemed to freak them out. They usually respond that they cannot discuss that topic over the phone or by email. Since I'm not willing to rearrange my whole schedule, drive across the state or fly across the country hoping the rate is what I am willing to pay, I usually pass on those guys. What other option do we have?

I, rightly or wrongly, do as do those who say that they make negative assumptions about an escort based upon him posting "ask me" on sites where he has a choice. But some good points as to why some do that.

Good points on both sides.
