At this time, I'd like to ask a really stupid board question. I've watched postings out here for a while and I have a question.

When people post BUMP in response sometimes to people's postings..what does that refer to? and yes...I'm seriously this dumb that I still can't understand what it means although I have several working theories at the moment..here are some of them

1. BUMP refers to a secret undisclosed location that everybody goes to and parties

2. BUMP is a term referring to a type of sex people like...you may get a small BUMP or you may get a speed BUMP or something else

3. BUMP refers to one of the escorts back in medieval times who was known as SIR BUMP-A-LOT who was praised for his "services" but who NEVER took off his armor thus earning the name "Bump-a-lot"

4. BUMP refers to the type of ride somebody likes at an amusement park. BUMP being short for BUMPer cars. Some people might put WHIRL or even ROUND.

any of these close?

GCursor:

I am the most naive person on this website, not you.

I have no idea what "BUMP" means, nor a lot of other lingo. I once asked a few basic questions, and just got attacked for being "stupid" or "playing games."

So it goes.

Adriano is correct. If there are no new posts to it, a thread tends to disappear. Escorts often "bump" a post announcing their availability in another market just before they actually travel there, or even while they are there.

Thanks, Charlie!

I love when they try to be slick by posting unnecessary things like: "Just booked my hotel and I'm all set!" or "I hope we have good weather that week!" Personally, I like to just post the word "bump" and be obvious about it. :p

Rather than ask what you think might be a stupid question, try a Google search. It would have brought up the following definition that I believe would have provided you the answer to your question:

"Bump (Internet)...

To bump a thread on an internet forum is to post a reply to it purely in order to raise the thread's profile. This will typically return it to the top of the list of active threads. The term "to push-up" a thread is also used to describe this type of action. It has been suggested that "bump" is an acronym of "bring up my post",[1] however this is almost certainly a backronym and the usage is entirely consistent with the verb "bump" which means "to knock to a new position".[2] It can also be used in personal messages (PMs) or instant messages (IMs) on the Web, to return an older message to the top of the list."

Wanna bump?

I thought it was a dance from the 60's.

And then it evolved into taking a hit of cocaine in the 90's.

I'm always amazed by the number of wimpy men in the audience. Who gives a royal shit what some anonymous asshole thinks of your dumb question? (I never think internet questions are dumb. Online language evolves much like any other language.) Yes, you can do a Google search but it seems many people don't know how to decipher the results. They also don't know how to choose the best search keywords. Some people like to read instructions while others like to be told how to do something. And, often, until you hear the answer from the horse's mouth, no one can be sure what the hell anyone meant by using the words that were posted.

Bless your heart, Rocky, you managed to gallantly step to gcursor's defense and casually backhand him into Saturday week in the same post.

One can only stand in awe.

I remember natesf bumped one of my threads about a zillion years ago and I was puzzled beyond belief until someone explained it to me.

Oh yeah, I remember! I think it was for a Hooville gathering you were organizing in SF at the time.

@Rick, I disagree I kind of like the obscure update-disguised-as-bump method of bumping a thread. There are endless possibilities for creativity. How about we have a contest for the most transparent/lame: such as "pancakes for breakfast" or "you gotta see the view from here, guys!" :-)

gcursor, please don't feel the need to apologize for any posting...we all have rights to post what we think of feel here...the onus is on everyone else to respond as they like....not everyone can like everything and on this forum, it matters not....keep on trucking, guy.

Well, fuck me with a 12-inch cock, no grease and no enema.

I'm starting to see just how this board operates...

That's pretty impressive, coming from someone with only 69 posts. I've been here (officially) since 2005 and I haven't a clue how this board operates. All I know is that there are some men who will tolerate a lot of bullshit (some of it funny, some of it that makes no sense, some of it sad) for the opportunity to talk about the sex they're having, the sex they're not having, and they sex they hope to have. As long as gay men get horny, a place like this will exist. What more operation does one need to know?

Ok-- I'll admit-- I thought the meaning of BUMP should have been obvious because of the way it brought the thread back to the top of the pile so to speak-- so the question did seem kind of the 'S' word to me. However I've had my own share of 'S'-questions in the past. And I'm sure I'll have many more in the future. One of my previous 'S'- questions that everyone else seemed to understand except me that I never asked about and eventually figured out by myself after a looong period of time was the meaning of IMHO ( in my humble opinion).

So see these 'S' word type questions can happen to anyone.

LOL, me too until I finally figured out I could google non-serious stuff too. ROFLMAO was another.

No, re-read what I said! I love it, too! It's hilarious. ;)

I see a couple of good ones there right now but I'll hold my tongue (or finger). :p

I love this thread... from the sublime to the....... but I second the motion that there are no stupid/bad/unreasonable questions that can be asked and answered on this Forum... some of the answers are serious, some are humorous, some are nasty, but almost all are in good fun... so bump away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
