Hey Guys, how do I get rid of old porn? I'm not afraid of the garbage man finding it, or of going to the dump with it, but it makes me sad to see it just decompose in some landfill. When I bought my house, I found two boxes of it from the 60s and 70s (previous owners'), and then my own collection through the 80s and 90s. Its stuff like Honcho, Blueboy, Numbers, Playgirl, Mandate, Advocate Men. Then there's the really old stuff that imitates Beach Blanket movies, only no Annette. I'm not trying to set up an ebay thing here, just would like some suggestions. I thought about doing a collage on my bathroom wall, but it seemed just a tad 70s gay bar toilet to me. Its fun to look at and some of the ads and stories are great.

Try giving them to an adult gay video store....at least, they can rent it out to others who may still enjoy watching old porn.

If there were only some way to get it into the hands of somebody inexperienced enough to really appreciate it. If I had found things like that at say age 15 or 16 my life would be very different.

To be serious for a moment, many large American cities now have glbt archives which would probably love to recieve your magazines. I know that the only thing that might keep GCAM (Gulf Coast Archives and Museum of glbt history) here in Houston from accepting it would be a possible lack of space - a problem I don't think they're faced with yet, but it could easily happen at any time. I think the archives in LA is one of the largest and I believe it's name is ONE. I thnk that you're in NYC? I don't personally know of one there, but I'd be willing to bet that there is one.

 

What you have in those boxes is not only a bunch of good sex, it's also a sizable sounding chunk of our collective history. Watching how porn has changed over the years, etc., etc. And not just for normal Joes either, but for University level research purposes, too.

 

GCAM has a locked room where such things are kept, but will allow anyone over 21 to see them. You might not be allowed to page your way through them, though, unless you bring your own acid free linen gloves. At least for the older, rarer ones. That should prove to the docents that you care about maintaining the magazines' condition.

take them. You'll also find people looking to trade porn videos and mags, via the internet. Or give the

magazines to friends. (Stuff some stockings with cock shots.)

 

But, your bathroom decoupage motif is a great idea. Tacky is timeless, and lots of fun. Go for it.

I, too, have been considering getting rid of my "lavender library" and now have a decent alternative to the landfill. I would also assume you could take the fair-market value as a tax deduction if you give to a state or non-profit school.
