Those are the key words right there…none of us likely knows the reason.   What if it’s the highest paying opportunity he has and there are family obligations.

When we impute our mindset or personal morality onto someone else and hold their choices against them because they differ from our own, that remains prejudice.  Anything else is rationalization in my view.   In this case, your friend is confirming he’s not the stereotype you impute onto him…and youre rationalizing?   Do you see how that might not pass the sniff test?

You live with the choices you make and you accept the consequences.  The choices one makes says plenty about them.  I would assume from your statement that you would gladly accept as a friend a pleasant person who is a hitman for the mob, or perhaps an executioner, a professional thieft.  My guess is you draw a line somewhere and for each of us it is different based on our own beliefs.  I do not think this is prejudice.

BTW my use of FROSTY and COLD was more suggestive and not truly the tone of our conversation.

Sorry in advance, but I can't stop thinking about your friend asking you to drive instead of using Uber to the airport.

Is your friend incredibly frugal?   😆

I can personally attest that @purplekow is incredibly generous and always willing to assist visitors in his area.  And, while it may embarrass him for someone to say it, in our brief encounters grabbing drinks when I’m in his area, I have every reason to believe that he’s been a model of generosity and open handed friendliness throughout his life. 😇

Now back to the sharp banter among friends 😅

I couldn't agree more!

Your assumption is correct.  While the odds of me being in a place of common interests or chemistry is remote, in the unlikely event of that happening, I’m more likely to judge them based on what I see in their eyes and what I hear in their words than I am by their occupation

History is full of loving and tender people who have done horrific things serving in war or as a criminal before finding their way out.   I suspect we all have potential to help them in that transition if we see their potential.

I could just as easily say that who one chooses to hang out with says more about where they want to be rather than where they are.

But, I think I’ve made my case as completely as I’m able and respect that we disagree

This would depend on where in the spectrum you fall on the topic in question. If the profession was a butcher, and you were a vegan animal-rights activist, I can't see this working.

As we all here know,  just because something is illegal doesn't mean we think it's immoral. But if the job was something we though was both,  a relationship would be nearly impossible.

Outside the radical fringe on both sides of the political aisle, I can and am good friends with both sides.

I think the closer to the middle YOU are, the easier it would be.

I’m actually fine with friends I have on both extremes

UNTIL

they start telling me what I should think 😉
