Presale tickets went on sale today for The Odyssey, out July 17, causing AMC's app to crash and leading to hours long wait times in ticket queues. People, it's a movie! Not a concert. You'll be able to see it.

That's the trailer of someone who knows they made a bad movie. 

Matt Damon as Odysseus? No matter how fit he gets, he's still too soft to play it. Odysseus is a beast of a man, Damon is a terrible choice  

Lupita Nyong'o as Helen?  She could have done it at 20 when she was at the height of her beauty, but you simply can't have a middle-aged Helen of Troy.

Yes he seems miscast. I see someone like Sean Bean who played the character in Troy (with Brad Pitt as Achilles 😍). That film had Orlando Bloom miscast too I think. 

It’s 10 years after the Trojan war so Odysseus would be ageing. Similarly Helen might be past her best but yes the casting seems off. I’ll still watch it though.

If you think Matt Damon is miscast, Tom Holland is even smaller framed. 

Looking forward to seeing it.  It's one of my favorite books from the carefree days of my youth.

The Odyssey got a $51 million opening, reviews on RottenTomatoes Critics-95% Audience- 97%. Off to a very big start, I believe I read Christopher Nolan’s biggest opening ever.

Did anyone see it? I have three friends who saw it.  One raved. Two said,  "It's long." I normally like long things, but not necessarily movies.

It's worth it.  I saw on IMAX and will try to see it in 70mm for the full effect.  Pacing is good and the time passes quickly.

There's just one 70mm IMAX theater in my state and it's sold out for weeks.  Not really a Greek mythology(?) kinda guy, but I love big screen spectacles, so might make the two-hour drive in a few weeks.

For the weekend it made $124.5 million just in case someone thinks it made $51 million for the whole weekend, that was just opening day.

It is worth the drive.  The visual spectacle of the scenes on regular IMAX is great but I already know it will be even more impressive and sweeping on 70mm.  Like you, the two theatres with 70mm near me are both sold out for weeks unless you want a few first row seats.  Hard pass on that.  Neck would be so screwed up and pretty close to deaf by the end of the movie.

I saw it (in IMAX). First in-theatre experience in prolly 5 years or more.  A few comments

• Def worth seeing in the theatre.
• It's visually epic.  Do IMAX if you can.
• It's a full 3 hours (long) but never dull
• Matt Damon did a great job.  Many awards coming his way.
• It was LOUD (like, plug your ears loud at times).  Probably less so if not IMAX.
• Because it was loud, some of the story line was hard to hear/follow.
• Aspects of the movie were contrived - like too "modern day" for the time.
• Special effects (esp Cyclops) were incredible.
• The fighting scenes were heavily sanitized - for blood/gore. I'm OK with that (squeemish here) but detracted a tiny bit from realism.  These were supposed to be VERY bloody battles.

There will be huge critics and massive fans of this movie.  It is what it is....celebrate.

Every critic I've seen so far says the movie is way too loud. Apparently, it's a trademark of Nolan's. I would like to see it, but who wants to wear earplugs to a movie? My poor ears are so sensitive these days. I just don't understand why deaf has become a fad, especially when hearing aids are not covered my insurance. I enjoyed Dark Knight, but I couldn't understand a word anyone was saying. I fell asleep during Oppenheimer, but I watched it again, with subtitles, when it streamed.

Saw it last night, Imax but not 70mm, and I'm ok with that. I often put tissues in my ears in concerts and loud movies, but this didn't seem too loud to me at AMC.  It's good.  He gets on the boat, he gets off the boat, he gets on the boat, he gets off the boat, then guess what he does :-)
