D21howie Posted May 25 Posted May 25 Good morning everybody. Let’s take a little time today to remember the men and women who fought and served to protect our country and keep the freedom we have today in this Memorial Day. + m_writer, + BOZO T CLOWN, marylander1940 and 5 others 6 2
Luv2play Posted May 26 Posted May 26 I’ve never understood why America observes this day to remember veterans. Most of the Commonwealth countries observe Nov. 11 th as Remembrance Day. That was the day of the armistice which ended the Great War or WWI as we now know it. Vulgarii and Thomas_Belgium 1 1

Because America revolted against that rat bastard, King George III, and is celebrating its 250th year of independence this year. Why should America follow Britain's lead when America was the one that saved Britain's bacon in both world wars? Britain should be following America's lead and move its Remembrance Day to coincide with America's Memorial Day and create an equivalent to America's Veterans Day in November. Didn’t America also help to liberate France in both wars? And the French helped the Americans to liberate themselves from British rule. That’s what allies do.

Memorial day is not a holiday to honor veterans. It's a day to remember those military personnel who fought and died in Americas wars. Nov. 11 is the Veterans day holiday in the US. November 11th is a day observed in the Commonwealth countries including Canada to remember and honour those who have fought and died in all the wars of the 20th century. The remaining veterans show up to help celebrate the day but apart from the conflicts in the 21st century, those who are still around from WWII are few. We have one here in my town who just turned 100. He trained for the Second War but fought in Korea. I suppose Memorial Day commemorates those soldiers who participated in on the Revolution, the Spanish American War, the Civil War, the Vietnam War, etc. These are wars particular to America. I see the need to have a separate day for observation of their sacrifices. Edited May 26 by Luv2play

d.anders Posted Friday at 04:26 PM Posted Friday at 04:26 PM I got a notification today (from this board) that I'm now a veteran. Does that mean I get to celebrate one of these American holidays? Vulgarii and BigDMike 1 1
