ICTJOCK Posted Wednesday at 06:42 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:42 PM So after discussion with my doctor about changes with Prep, I decided to set aside the Descovy and do the semi annual injection. That was after a lot of discussion. Two shots right in my lower stomach or upper abdomen. It wasn’t pleasant and a bit of discomfort for a week. Will decide if I want to do it again in September. Kind of a mixed view, but we’ll see. Any thoughts or personal experience? MikeBiDude, + m_writer and thomas 1 1 1
+ JamesB Posted Wednesday at 07:44 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:44 PM To be honest, the only thing holding me back from going the semiannual injection route is the cost. ICTJOCK 1
jeezifonly Posted yesterday at 06:23 AM Posted yesterday at 06:23 AM I think a twice-yearly shot a great option for people who have difficulty with a daily regimen. How much that demographic overlaps with patients who can afford it, I don't know. I have been poz and in treatment of one sort or another for 37yrs. I am healthy because of compliance with the protocol for treatment. I would also likely be as compliant daily with prevention. Some guys struggle with that sort of disciplined self-care when young (women using birth control develop it better) and don't have a relative understanding of the actual disease that Prep prevents, because early treatment and prevention (condoms) have worked in removing it from the everyday lives of the gay community. The urgency is gone, but prevention is still best. Eventually, insurers will cover the shots, but until then, Prep is within reach for most everyone who's sexually active, and I raise a toast of gratitude to the dedicated scientists and doctors (and patients) who have gotten us this far!! thomas, + SidewaysDM, + robear and 1 other 4
chitownguy Posted yesterday at 02:08 PM Posted yesterday at 02:08 PM I currently do the every two month apretude injection for Prep. I've talked to my doctor about switching to the twice yearly shot. Medicare would pay for it. But I'm hesitated because of the two shots in the abdomen. I've read that there can be more pain and discomfort than the two month shot. thomas 1
Wings246 Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago It is reported that pea-size injection site lumps are very common (>60%) for Yeztugo and they can last for months. Other than cost, is that another deterrent to use?
