Three eps into it.  It's fun.  I keep repeating,"Thank God I never joined the military," but a close friend of mine had a very good time in the army in the '80s.  Constant fucking is how he describes it.

While watching, I keep remembering the old joke, "How can you tell when you're in bed with a Masculine Marine?  He holds up his own legs when you fuck him."

And easy on the eyes!

All the guys are good-looking in this show, even the bigger guy and the other two drill instructors: it’s just everybody has to shave their face and head. The casting director definitely knew what they were doing.

Max Parker (Sullivan) is certainly my favorite, but I’m having a crush on Miles Heizer (Cope) too: I’m a bottom, and was never into twinks, but Miles makes want to top, lol.

Got distracted by some other shows (The Diplomat and Slow Horses) but finished Boots last night.  Liked it a lot.  The arc of the story for Sullivan, the muscular Drill Sergeant, seems odd, but if it's from the book then I guess that's the only way to tell it.

The show was a generous goodbye-gift from Normal Lear.

Gay-themed …

The hunky actor that played the Army “recruiter” on The English Teacher last night also has a role, but I think a minor one.

That would be Brandon Tyler Moore.

Right, and his character's story got wonky.  I don't buy him impulsively, drunkenly, putting someone in a coma just to avoid being investigated further, something he knew he had his superior's support over and also something he seemed no longer entirely shy about facing, hence him aggressively removing his shirt in front of the investigator with zero resistance.  It doesn't track for me, but again maybe it makes more sense in the book.

Enjoyed it until episode four, then it got too sappy. I get that it's based on a true story, but do all gay men have to be depicted as so emotionally needy and fucked up? No wonder we shouldn't be Marines.

And all the gay men are played by gay actors? A stupid gimmick. Are all the straight men played by straight actors? Are we now required to reveal our sexuality when applying for a job?

I look forward to AI destroying what's left of the idiotic film and television industry.

Watched the first episode. Didn't grab me.  Will probably watch one more and unless it improves I'm out.

I had no interest at all in the lead character.  The others were interesting enough for me to try another but it's a tough sell when the lead character is not compelling.

I watched initially because Max Parker ( Sgt Sullivan ) looked damn sexy in the previews....but ended up really enjoying the story.

The lead character's story line ( Cameron Cope )  is a little forced at the beginning ...I agree. But if you continue, the narrative winds-in the Sgt. Sullivan's own story, which adds a layer of interest.

I don't agree with the above comment from @Manhattan about gays always being depicted as "emotionally needy and fucked up". It's a period piece so the presence of the gay-closet in a hyper- masculine environment obviously is going to produce a character with issues. I have watched quite a bit of content in the last decade that doesn't write the gay character as messed up. This one is based on a true story, so it is what it is. I'm sure it WAS difficult to be a homosexual in the military knowing you could be expelled and your career ended just for sucking a dick.

It’s not just gay men, have you been around 18yo’s?  Yeah, some are emotionally well adjusted and have their shit squared away.  Most do not.  Hence Boot camp’s indoctrination into what they are supposed to be.  Even then, they aren’t fully mature.
