In a thread in The Deli regarding the cost of hiring a particular provider, it was made mention he is a porn star. I stated that his being a porn star disinclined me to hire him in addition to his hourly rate of $1000. Two forum members reacted with 🙄 That is curious to me. I wonder why this reaction to my straightforward comment.

But it did prompt me to think!

What are your feelings about hiring porn stars? Those that like to, why? What’s the appeal for you? Not the general appeal we all can surmise, but for you? And if you wouldn’t, why not?

My experience has been poor when I have hired a porn star. It wasn’t worth it to me to pay the premium for a porn star. His performance wasn’t what others have been, and I know some of the vibe was because he was in this sexually charged situation and was in “star mode.” I didn’t like it. I’m not saying all porn stars are like that, but I had enough of the affected types in high school and also deal with some professionally (the darlings, I call them), and I’m just not going to pay someone to be like that around me.

I’m kind of ambivalent about it. For me, what really matters—porn star or not—is whether the person is kind, respectful, and creates a safe, judgement-free space for us. I’d treat the encounter no differently than I would with anyone else.

I do have a school yard crush on Rocco Steele. The only downside (if you want to call it that) I could see is that I’ve seen a lot of his work, so I come in with a set of expectations that aren’t entirely fair to place on a person. Fantasy is edited. Real connection isn’t. And I’d rather be surprised than compare.

Another interesting point. I think @Jamie21 made a similar observation about guys hiring him after having seen some of his collaborations.

No matter the situation, I have learned that it’s often better to suspend expectations because you normally are disappointed. Great expectations lead to great disappointments.

My experience has been poor when I have hired a porn star. It wasn’t worth it to me to pay the premium for a porn star. His performance wasn’t what others have been, and I know some of the vibe was because he was in this sexually charged situation and was in “star mode.” I didn’t like it. First and foremost, if I find a provider attractive—whether they do porn or not—I’m interested. I don’t book someone because they’re a porn actor. The only advantage porn gives me, especially amateur or non-studio content, is that it helps me see what they actually look like from all angles, what they’re capable of, and sometimes gives a glimpse into their personality.

A lot of people approach porn actors with this kind of mystique, built up from what they’ve seen on camera. But many porn actors don’t want to be put on a pedestal during an encounter—unless it’s part of the roleplay. 😊 Most of them just want to be treated normally and made to feel sexy, just like the client does. Honestly, I’ve never met a porn actor who was full of themselves or rude. In fact, echoing @ApexNomad’s point, they’ve usually been kind, respectful, and created a safe, judgment-free space—for me and vice versa. Maybe I’m just good at picking the easygoing ones. Who knows?

Another common assumption is that porn actors always charge a premium. I haven’t found that to be true. Sure, one big-name porn actor I saw regularly was probably my most expensive weekend hire—but that was mostly because I paid for his travel from Argentina. When he was already in the country, his rates were much more reasonable. In fact, his overnight/weekend rate ended up being cheaper per hour than his hourly rate. Another well-known porn actor only charged $500 per night for a weekend—and he was also a chef. One day, he even went grocery shopping just to cook for me.

I’ve been hiring since around 2007 and have met a fair number of porn actors and non-porn providers. Most of those encounters have been good to great. I can count the “meh” or bad ones on one hand. Ironically, the worst experience I ever had was with a guy who had done a few scenes for Circle Jerk Boys. On the flip side, one of the best experiences I’ve ever had was with a frequent Sean Cody model. But I don’t let either of those define my expectations. Every hire is a case-by-case situation—you either click, or you don’t.

Right now, one of my regulars is a porn actor, and we have some of the best times—both socially and in the bedroom. He’s been an incredible hire. At the end of the day, porn actors are just people. Some might be jerks, but most aren’t. I get the hesitation some folks have, especially if they’ve had one bad experience—but that doesn’t mean they’re all the same. And while some might charge premium rates, many don’t. I can definitely vouch for that.

I mentioned this on that other thread. But the one porn “Star” I’ve hired was great and didn’t charge a premium.

One of the forest providers we hired has since become a pretty big OF/porn guy. I’m not sure if he sees clients anymore.

There are guys I find attractive but I also know that porn is not the same thing as real life. So if I hired Cade Maddox, I doubt he’d live up to his onscreen performances.

Isn't that rather a big advantage ? Most Rentmen profiles are desperately lacking.

Like you...I dont hire for the mystique of being in porn . It just convenient to have a good idea of what they're like in bed. I think thats a valuable bit of information as it can prevent me spending money on poor performance. Better to spend $600 on someone you KNOW is good in bed, than waste $300.on some eye candy that cant perform.

And for me, being able to see them on screen and hear them speak is huge; not so much the performance (as the sex is not why I hire); but the way they carry themselves, and the voice, are big indicators for me.
