Quiet Manhattan hotel

I find it tough to sleep with noise, and unfortunately, white noise doesn't help as much as I would hope. Does anyone know of a hotel with quiet rooms anywhere in the city?  Windowless bedrooms or rooms facing a brick wall in the back would be perfect.

NYC law actually forbids windowless bedrooms.

You could try my favorite hotel, Hotel Beacon on Broadway and W 75th.  Get a room on a higher floor facing away from Broadway (facing towards Central Park).  I've always found those rooms to be quiet at night. I also like that the hotel is away from more touristy, overly crowded mid-town and a couple blocks from a red line subway stop.

Thanks for the tip” @SundayZip. The Beacon excellent reviews. Did you notice any HVAC noise like rattling vents? (I turn off room HVAC at night, but sometimes you can’t turn it off completely.)

I’ve stayed recently at the Arthouse Hotel on W 77th with a balcony room that had no noise 

a couple years ago, I stayed at The Pierre on 5th Ave overlooking Central Park.  On the 35th(?) floor, no noise since sound wasn’t bouncing off buildings.

A few years ago at The W Times Square at about the 57th floor, no noise

The Michaelangelo (?) Times Square had interior facing rooms

On my last trip to Manhattan I stayed at a hotel down near Battery Park in lower Manhattan, across from the ferry (Hilton garden??) It was pretty quiet relative to midtown

The rooms have a HVAC unit under the window and I'm 85% sure you can turn it off. I don't have a problem sleeping with low level white noise, but I am bothered by fans turning off and on during the night. So, I like to turn HVAC units off before going to bed.  Because I'm only 85% sure, you might want to call the hotel to verify. I'd hate to steer you wrong.

Excellent ideas, PF!  I’m looking at all of them. They are all much cheaper than the Peninsula 😱, which also has interior facing rooms. 

Any thoughts on the Prince Kitano on 38th and 5th?

I turn off AC at night too. And I keep hearing about the Beacon as a quiet hotel.

Never heard of the Prince Kitano.   I have a friend who adores The Lucerne on W 79th as well.  I’ve not tried it though.

For a good reason. In the last year there have been two fires in Old Montreal in hotel like accommodations that were used by tourists and fires in both killed numerous guests. Both had rooms without windows and the victims couldn’t get out. 
In one case a young woman who died used her phone as the smoke invaded her room to cry for help but it never arrived.
