NY Hotels catering to gay men

I remember when I first started going to Manhattan in the 90s, there was talk about hotels catering to gay men - to be more exact, there were usually gay escorts hanging out in the lobby or lounge (and very approachable).  I never went to any of these hotels, as I was travelling on business and usually travelled with coworkers - so we all stayed in the same hotel.

Now that I can travel for leisure (and usually solo), are these hotels still in existence in NYC ? I never hear anything about them any longer. I believe they were mostly in the Times Square / Hells Kitchen area. Did they all get 'cleaned out' like some of the gay strip clubs in TS / HK areas ?

Thanks in advance for any info. Looking to go to Manhattan in the fall.

Manhattan is too expensive for sleazy hotels with hookers in the lobby. The 1970s are over. Besides ....Everyone's on their phone looking for dick nowimage.gif.97faadea34142fd72533f1b773e2df77.gif

Sometimes I prefer meeting them in person and see if there's any chemistry between us before the meeting, rather than texting on the phone and meeting them after.

...a clothing optional pool, with a men-only policy.  There are a few hotels like that in Ft Lauderdale

I once booked a gay hotel with a clothing optional policy, many years ago, in Fort Lauderdale. BIG mistake.

Nothing in that pool that I wanted to see.

It's less about being there to view others and more about enjoying being comfortable with yourself while you're there.

Is it ?
well...I was completely uncomfortable.

But that's because I was the only hot guy in the place...so it was like being the fresh kill for a pack of (old and ugly) wild dogs.

Wasn't fun at all.

Will never do THAT again.  (Even at 50-something I'm still probably in far better shape than any of those old-farts were )

So why did you choose to go into the pool naked ? If you saw the pool was filled with unattractive men, why didn't you turn around and leave ? Maybe go at another time ? Why make your time KNOWINGLY uncomfortable ?  I mean whenever I survey a situation to socialize, and I see I'm not going to be comfortable (and I'm not just talking a naked pool with gay men: I'm talking holiday gatherings and other events, as well) , I turn around and leave. It's happened many times in my adult life. Life is too short to knowingly subject yourself to this.

Because he’s a vain little bitch who wants to be the "prettiest girl in the room"…..grin.

I feel a song coming on…..

"Cause everyone harbors a secret hatred
For the prettiest girl in the room"

I may have been a "pretty little bitch" back then but my motivations were more.borne of naivete, than vanity.

I saw "clothing optional" hotel and naively envisioned a place full of naked hot men. (This of course was pre-internet). Rather than being the center of attention, I waa hoping for more handsome sexual prospects to oggle. The reality of the situation was more of a sad retirement home vibe with men so fat you couldn't see their dick. (Which was maybe a blessing). 😉

Who said I did ?  🤔

You talked about being uncomfortable with the unattractive guys in the pool, and then you said you were the only hot guy 'in the place'.  Logic dictates 'place' referred to 'pool'.  If you were referring to the hotel itself as 'place', and you were the only hot guy staying there - that's even worse.  Why would you even spend half a day there if you were that uncomfortable ?  Many excuses you could use to leave without any fees.

But logic doesn't dictate that if I saw a pool full of ugly old men, I'd be dropping my drawers and wandering about.

In fact ...I stayed only one night and moved to another hotel after I realized I was the only attractive person in the entire hotel. Lesson learned. I was very young and just learning how things worked in gay culture. You learn from your mistakes.
