It was over 150

Depending on what year you took the test ...150 was the line for "genius". If you struggle in some categories that score was unlikely. You needed to be fairly diverse in your aptitudes to get there.

That video is very true. The IQ test only measures one aspect of intelligence. My strengths are in rapid problem solving and in linguistics. I do horribly in other tasks, especially anything involving sports or arts (especially drawing, although I do have musical talent). I also am short on attention/patience, so I can never do well at tasks which require long-term problem solving, such as chess. When I took my IQ test in the 7th grade, they said that the test I took couldn't tell me what my IQ was, other than that it was over 150. I'm very good at solving fixed problems, but have never won a chess game in my life (though I can't stand chess and have only played a few games).

If I couldn't find a job in problem-solving, it would have been in linguistics. I seem to be able to "get" foreign languages quickly, and I enjoy such learning. Even with languages which I only studied for a few months, such as Mandarin and Turkish, when I was in the country, I'd always be complemented on my pronunciation (even if my vocabulary was obviously poor). I can barely remember a word of Mandarin and Turkish these days, though I do keep a few languages with some facility.

However, I have no talents in the sports or visual-spatial arena. "Chris" loves to watch drag programs and shows, and I tell him often that if I had to rely on my ability to do drag, I would be a starving homeless man. I can't even stand up straight, let alone walk in heels. And I can't draw better than a stick figure. I have no talent at being able to put what I see to paper. I'm happy to have found a job I enjoyed; it involved lots of problem-solving opportunities each day. I guess we're all tasked to find our talents and tailor or life to those talents--and avoid areas where we have no talent.

Linguistics and languages are two different things.  Many years ago, I knew a guy who had an advanced degree in linguistics.  He also happened to be good at languages, being fluent in both Polish and Russian.

Fortunately, they didn't test on things I'm horrible at: dancing, creativity, athleticism, art, and walking in heels.

A quote worthy of consideration:

The most valid and reliable cognitive assessments are anything by Wechsler, Stanford-Binet, or Kaufmann if you’re looking for a broad-spectrum assessment that will look at your cognitive profile, rather than just give you a single number.

However, any valid and reliable assessment requires a licensed or certified examiner to administer. Your examiner will determine the best method to assess your cognitive levels, and use that.

Online tests? Not a single one. Don’t bother, unless you’re just playing around for fun.

Yes. I don't remember the high heel section.

The other problem that your comment calls attention to, is that over the years the favorite source of IQ test would change and the metrics ( although similar ) 130 to 160 being high ranking, makes it impossible to compare notes with other people. I remember when I took it, 140 was considered "genius level" and other tests it was 150 and some 130...so hardly standardized when you can't even interpret the test scores from one year to another or one school district to another.

This. Note two things. None has ever had a question about wheelbarrows haha. And none employs the term “genius.”

"any valid and reliable assessment"

Is anyone here looking for one of those?  Doubt it.  When I took internet test after internet test until I scored 140 on one, I had no illusions about the reliability of the number.   I was just looking for a number, that validated what I already knew about myself - that Im an intelligent guy.   I would certainly never put it on an employment application.

Of course it’s not worth the screen you’re viewing it on. Why don’t you just pull a number from a hat?

And you are certain of this how?

But you're not a testing psychologist or someone of similar stature who is qualified to express an opinion on the accuracy/validity of IQ tests found on the internet?

Honestly though... IQ is so abstract.. you can't use it to prove whether or not someone's smart.  I once read about some chinese parents who paid Standford 1,5mil to get their daughter admited because she got an 60 in her IQ test? That's just dumb 1,5 mil dollars seem like lots of money and it is in the US or in any other country in the world, but not in China. Especially if you live in major cities like Beijing or such, you can't seriously expect to live a happily ever after life with 1,5 mil. In China it's a not big thing even if your kid get into Ivy League or even Harvard. https://iunajaf.edu.iq/en/ I guess that they were ashamed because their daughter didn't pass the entrance uni exam.

It’s a shame how useless mankind has made the internet…..
