While it is a way off I might mention that as of right now MAL is planned for MLK weekend of 2022. The Hyatt sold out in 15 minutes this year. If you want to get a hotel room at a discounted rate you can go to http://www.leatherweekend.com. I will say if you haven't been to MAL it is well worth it especially buying the full pass which gets you access to Leather Cocktails (Saturday night formal leather cocktail event with heavy food and open bar), brunch on Sunday morning at the Hyatt, the contest on Sunday and the after party on Sunday evening typically at the 9:30 club. It also gets you access to the leather market too. I should know as I had the first-hand experience as a contestant for MAL 2020 after placing first runner up for Mr. Maryland Leather.

Anyway has anyone thought about a potential return to the DC Forum Meetup for 2022. If I were to suggest a day I would suggest it on Saturday vs. Sunday when it's typically been held. Two reasons come to mind, 1)MAL contest is held on Sunday, 2)those who purchase a full run pass for MAL get brunch at the Hyatt on Sunday morning as part of their pass. On Saturday, beyond events such as the pup mosh, SigMa demos and the announcement of IML judges at noon there really isn't any set events. If it were me planning I would choose a restaurant either in Union Station or around the Hyatt so attendees of MAL could join. Alternatively rather than a brunch/lunch as has been held in the past we could hold a meetup/cocktail party at the Hyatt if someone has a room/suite there in this forum. Might lead to a more interesting meetup (hmmm????).

Good suggestions! I've never been to MAL and must admit I am not sure it is really my scene, but I will keep an open mind. Hopefully 2022 will be a "back to normal" type of year.

I would also be interested in any NYC based events as that is where I live at the moment.

I am stepping away from organizing the MAL Forum gathering. If anyone wants to undertake that effort please feel free. If circumstances allow I may be available to answer any questions about organizing.

Sorry to hear that, AVG, although I don't know if I'll be able to attend, much less help organise.

I'd be happy to organize the 2022 gathering. I'd helped out @ArVaGuy a few years ago so can take the reins having benefited from that experience. @ArVaGuy and those before him did a great job setting up the template, and I think overall the series of events works really well.

I think the suggestion of switching the brunch from Sunday to Saturday is an interesting one. That might give people more flexibility in planning their weekend, and an opportunities to schedule follow-ups with new acquaintances given they'll be meeting earlier in the weekend. ;)

Though the DC gathering coincides with MAL, and MAL is loads of fun, there may be some who are less interested in MAL but still interested in meeting up. I think the past events, with a Friday happy hour meetup at MAL and the brunch in the gayborhood provided something for everybody. The year I got involved we added a happy hour at a gay sports bar to further widen the appeal, and I thought that was fun even though I'm not particularly sporty.

In any event, I already booked my flights and hotel so I can say with certainty that there will be a 2022 DC gathering, and I'm happy to commit to organizing it so people can be confident in making plans. Flights were pretty cheap when I booked, and they still might be. As @Keenan mentions the MAL Hyatt is long sold out, but there are some nearby hotels participating that are offering MAL rates. You don't need to register for MAL to book at the participating hotels, and you can also attend much of MAL a la carte if you just want to try it out for size.

If you're interested in attending, please send me a message through here or directly through my email at nate@natebeck.us so I can contact you as the date approaches (your info will be kept in confidence).

@PeterMxM

Here's the thread about the 2022 DC forum get together.

Thanks very much for this! I usually go to the different events like International Mr. Leather in Chicago and Mid-Atlantic Leather weekend in DC. I post my ad to see clients while there, but it is also nice to have some socal 'off the clock' time to get to meet with other providers and clients.

Will be nice to meet you. I enjoy leather, but have never been a part of any leather community. My young providers have been introduced to the fun of role play and leather. I’m looking to participating in some leather events during the DC Forum meet-up.

Hi Nate..I'd be interested in getting on this contact list and being updated for the event. It's quite likely that I won't be able to attend Palm Springs next year but might be able to go to the DC forum meetup instead. Thanks for keeping us updated.
