I'm looking to buy a laptop to use basically for internet surfing, particularly for porn. The idea is to keep my important personal stuff on a safe computer that my porn surfing can't corrupt with viruses, etc.

So I'm looking for something with good, fast internet connections and good resolution for movies and videos. Also should have good security to avoid all those viruses that clog you up when you're looking for porn.

I'm thinking that a Chromebook might be a good choice.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

I would not be using it for any office type usage -- Word, Excel all that is totally UNnecessary. E-mail maybe, but that's about it.

A Chromebook is basically just an internet browser, so if you're looking to stream only with this computer, then it may be a good choice.

If you want to download / save anything, then I'd recommend something with an i5 or better processor, 16GB RAM and an SSD drive, so that you don't have to deal with local performance issues.

Sounds like a fairly modest overall need.

Maybe something like an Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab.

“Internet connection” speed is MUCH MORE a function of your internet provider and your router/modem setup rather than the computer (or tablet, smartphone) itself.

I use a Chromebook for porn/private activities. I like the keyboard. It is fast, you don't have to reboot often, and is durable. They are also fairly cheap.

I think the question is how do you want to use the device. If you want something with a keyboard, go with a Chromebook. If the screensize is OK, go with an iPad. Chromebooks do have the advantage that you don't need to prop them up with anything :)

Both will be very protected from virus without anything else, at this time, there are just not a lot of viruses that focus on either. It is a risk, but a low one.

As you imply, if you never connect to a bank or other sensitive site, there would be nothing to take if someone did get on it.

Decent iPad case has good prop-up capability. I spent $65 for my last iPad case which I thought was too much. Guess what - best case I’ve owned in years and years of iPads.

Chromebook for sure. I use mine for browsing the web while I watch TV. But you can also install android apps if you need/want to. You can use the Chrome browser or install a more privacy-oriented option like Brave or Firefox Focus. I think most of them have microSD card slots these days if you need extra storage

Thanks boys, you are all really helpful. I went with a Chromebook. I have an iPad which I have occasionally used for porn, but the only problem is that everything I do on there links up to my Macbook, which is where I keep my important stuff (well, more important than porn). So the Chromebook should be completely separate and more private. Anyway -- great advice and thanks again.

Hope the Chromebook works out well for you.

IRT iPad for those who may look at this thread in the future.

You can disable file sharing between Apple devices. Many options available of what can be shared.

Most of the settings are within the “Sharing” section of “System Preferences”. If you use Apple iCloud be very careful. Research “disable file sharing on iOS” before taking action. Probably best to create separate Apple ID’s for the different devices.

Just an example:

In another thread there is a lively discussion about various games one can download and play. Rather than interrupt that thread with off topic questions I'll bring them here.

I don't download porn, I just stream it as I rarely watch something more than once or twice. I appreciate your advice.

Download chrome

I have a laptop and I store whatever porn I download on an external thumb drive. Their storage capacities are huge now. That way the laptop does not have anything on it that might suddenly pop up by accident. If you're purely streaming, then use a VPN so there's no trace.

I appreciate your advice. Of course I have no idea what a VPN is. Is it something you buy or is it available on the web?
