I can't seem to find information about what will happen to shows in Las Vegas (i.e. Cirque)

Are they DOA like the buffets?

No set answers on this so far (to the best of my knowledge). Also, they are thinking about making the buffets operational in a way carving stations worked but for every dish. So it may not be a grab whatever you want for yourself type of deal, but someone will be handling one station and will be giving you the food, that way not 1,000 people will grab the same spoon before it gets wiped but will be handled by 1 person solely. Again, these are just rumors.

Good question. I haven't seen anything. I assume shows will start returning around the time when sporting events with fans return. I see a few combat sport events are scheduled in LV in June but they will be held without fans. I assume the general public will have to watch PPV on TV.

I see the huge (400,000+ total attendance) EDC has been rescheduled for October 2-4, but that is outdoors.

Just FYI Electric Daisy Carnival, commonly known as EDC, is an annual electronic dance music festival, with its flagship event held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was originally scheduled this month.

From the MGM website shows are cancelled through June 30th. I would imagine though that that date might be pushed back a few weeks minimum, because the next 2 weeks will probably be used to monitor how the initial versions of reopening will pan out, and then another few weeks for planning, coordination, and notification.

You are probably right - I suspect the date will keep getting pushed out until mid summer... ?

Cirque is royally fucked at the moment.

Starting with a default on an interest payment, they're about to be taken over by hostile measures as they're now $900 million in debt, having fired 80% of their employees with zero shows running.

It's truly sad. So many incredible, creative people out of work.

I cancelled a trip to Vegas this week. Nothing about travel seems fun these days. The COVID measures being deployed around table games are dreadful; I have no interest in any of that joylessness. I probably won't visit Vegas again for a long time.

No shows, no buffets, some places charging an extra fee for this mess I'm right there with you. Total joy kill. I'll save my money and go elsewhere. We arent big gamblers and go mostly to see a show or two. At this point no point in going.

Hugs,

Greg

This report probably gives some idea about the situation in the casinos. Casinos do have a infrared thermal scan as we enter and they can give you mask (and gloves in some) if you request. However very rarely do guests use them in my observation and very few visitors here who can be seen walking outside on the strip seem to use masks. Though casinos have set up for people to play on only alternate slot machines, the aisles, staircases, etc are really not designed for social distancing and cannot be practiced. This is the true state of affairs and as is with most public places that are open one has to make personal adjustments adapting to the inevitable post-Corona-panic life. Human beings will adapt to the environment. After all we have (or still are) gone through so many pandemics and highly contagious diseases like the measles, smallpox etc and life goes on in spite of the horrific death of many people on this planet. Awareness, practice of maximum possible practically possible care (of self and others) and enjoying life (or what remains of it) as much as possible is all that we can do.

Horrible to hear. Wtf are all those out of work contortionists going to do???

I'm still tentatively booked back in late August, but if the shows aren't back and Covid-19 cases continue their surge (general not Vegas specific), I really don't see the point in going either (other than to keep my comps active). Still... who knows!

Thanks for the updates.
