Unfortunately those are stereotypes most of us still have about a muscular guy being a top and an effeminate guy being a bottom. Porno also makes us believe some should act one way or another in a private situation. How often do we see a "twink" fucking a daddy with a bear style body?

You're right, things are changing! Never judge a book by its cover and for the record, effeminate/masculine is in the eyes of the beholder....

Maybe that's what some like or prefer specially if they're hiring.

First of all the word has derogatory roots. Twink is oftentimes associated with the phrase “twinkle-toes,” which is intended to insult a man for being effeminate, slim, not muscular, etc. I think in most cases guys who exclusively want to have sex (paid or free) with twinks do it because they didn't have fun in college, they were either closeted or they just didn't get lucky back then for different reasons.

I can't find an article I read a long time ago about a study of men in their 60's who were only/mostly into twinks and refused to engage in any kind of relationship with men their own age and body type. They were undoubtedly physically attracted to a slim body type but also to the power of having a sexual partner who is dupable, ingenuous, unsuspecting, deceivable, etc. Someone they could "mold" and control because he doesn't know any better, someone grateful to them and all they could offer.

I'm not sure whether or not the bolded bit was directed at me. As I've said before, I'm one of the few younger members on the forum. I'm in my 20s and I fuck guys (both hires and non-hires) in my age range. I don't have daddy issues.

Did I quote you?

If it had been direct at you I would have quoted your or mention you @Quincy_7

Plenty of folks here started hiring when they were young too.

According to what I've been told there's some Grindr fatigue and younger guys like you hire more often then before.

Sorry, I just wasn't sure. And yes, grindr fatigue is a real phenomenon. Although I'll add that rentmen listings are almost always hotter than what you see on grindr for the respective city.

I got into a disagreement with someone over this yesterday. As one who hires, I feel it is justified and fair for providers to substantially raise rates to compensate for months of lost business, and that those who hire should be just fine to oblige, as they will be so horny at this point they will give whatever is asked.

My friend told me it is a damn good thing I don't run a business, because I'm crazy to think anyone should do such a thing, essentially implying things should be business as usual and nothing ever happened.

I've been price gouged by a masseur only once, who hated my company so much that he let me know later that day (but I didn't hate his), that he was willing for a re-meet for two and a half times his standard rate when he came to my neck of the woods again $200 instead of $80. I declined.

Price gouging I see is raising rates a ridiculous amount? How much? That depends on where the escort lives and the market there. If the escort is charging $150 and the standard rate in the area is between $200-$250 and the escort decides to raise the rate from $150 to $200 I don't see an issue with that. He is in line with what others are charging and has a right to modify his rates from time to time. I think you have to consider too that some may raise their rates due to the risk they place themselves in.

I’m unsure how can someone “price gouge” for an hourly rate of companionship. I would use that term to describe an increase in price of basic necessities - food staples, gasoline, etc. - during a time of temporary shortage when there is no alternative available. I love... sometimes even crave... intimacy but it’s not like a loaf of bread or gallon of milk I must have.

My thinking hasn’t changed at all on rates since pre-Covid days: I decide on a case by case basis if the business model someone has chosen is a good match with my interests; I have and will choose alternatives including foregoing meets if there is no good match. same as before.

Tangentially, I have never seen any correlation between hourly rate and how rewarding I find my time with someone.

Agreed!

But it's not only up to the provider, it takes 2 to tango. Some clients will never be satisfied no matter how interactive, handsome, etc. the escort is.

True.

Those are the clients who are projecting their own insecurity and self-loathing.

Those men will never be happy with what they have because they can't come to grips with transactional sex.

Either you adopt the Harvard strategy and advertise an exclusive service i.e. high barrier to entry/high cost, or the Walmart strategy of appealing to the general market with lower prices. I think the trifecta of grindr, onlyfans (instagram/twitter), and rentmen will explode with more men looking to be hired because of the consequences of the lockdowns.

Same. I have an acceptable range I’d consider. And if the arrangements phase is a pleasant experience, I’m willing to pay more for an overnight. If the provider acts like he can’t be bothered, I won’t pay top dollar. Simply. You either want my money or you don’t. I will continue my search til I find a guy who wants it.

And if a provider’s rate is too low, I also am hesitant. Why? Is he inexperienced and doesn’t know the business? Or is something more nefarious afoot?

I’m willing to pay a bit more for a good interaction setting up an appointment and willing to move on if the rate is too low. I suppose I’m fickle in some ways.

I'll have to be careful with post pandemic newbies.

Before the pandemic, as I mentioned, new kids with no record would go on RM thinking they're worth 300-350. Now that they have massive competition and fewer clients, I'll have even less patience with that type.

When I started hiring 4 years ago $200-$250 was the going rate in major markets. Nowadays $300 is the floor. I once agreed to pay $350 because the guy looked like he had a massive dick in one of his pictures. I was sorely disappointed.

The days of 300 floors are over.
