Should pornstars use their legal name just like most actors do?

I don't see the point in porn stars using stage names. With one's face and body for all to see, this is not an anonymous undertaking. The real names are easily available on the internet.

Great question, I think it deserves a thread of it's own.

I said most actors because sometimes mainstream performers changed their names in order to sound more American or hide certain ethnicity. That practice has fade away in recent decades but still persists.

Regardless of how accessible one’s information may be on the web, porn actors don’t all change their name for discretionary purposes.

Did you consider their on-screen persona don’t often correlate with who they are day-to-day, hence the name of a character? The same applies to an escort. If someone screams “Andre!” in the street or greets me as such, I know that it is a client or someone who has identified me from a world which is not my primary, because that is not my name lol. Granted, I tell clients anyway, it makes clients distinguishable among others. Who I’m hired to be and who I am don’t correlate, the same applies to most porn actors, hence the name change.

I think it should be up to the performer, but there are very good reasons to use a stage name. For starters, as @Guy Fawkes pointed out, there are a lot of crazies out there. Porn performers don't need the "God hates fags" people showing up at their door nor do they need obsessed fans stalking them. Second, in many cases they are branding themselves. There's a performer named "Teddy Bear" because he is extremely hairy front and back. My guess is his given name does not convey the same message as "Teddy Bear." Third, their video persona and their private persona are likely very different. Why not have different names?

When I was a kid and I attended summer camp, I gave myself a nickname that I only used there. It was probably 15+ years before anyone not from camp or my immediate family even knew I had a nickname. Also, many people at camp never knew my real name. Just certain staff members who had to know my real name and none of them ever used it while I was there in front me at least. Even my family would use my nickname when they were at camp with me. As hypothetically said, it was a persona I had there. It helped keep camp me separate from home me.

After many intimate sessions and “pillow talk” - I have a favorite provider where we now know each other’s real names.

NEVER in original correspondence or initial sessions! Only if there is long term connection, multiple & regular sessions and A CONNECTION & TRUST have been established.

It still remains a provider/client relationship -

There’s several web databases that have information and details on porn stars. I’m aware of one that lists Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter handles. It’s not that difficult for a serious Stan* to track down information on their favorite porn actors.

not a porn star, but a Playgirl model I know used his real name for his layout several years ago and has, apparently, regretted it ever since......says he can't get good jobs now (coworkers and others would google his name), but there may be more to the story......

Kathryn Mulgrew was saying on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me that she gets fans shouting her character names when they recognizer her on the street: "And sometimes you get the two-fer! Captain Janeway! Red! It makes your head spin a bit".

That doesn't mean you should just go ahead and do the work for the lazy ones...

I member Tristan Wsters' real first name, and I only hired him once. The same with a well-known LA escort.

I think it's a persons choice... if they become famous outside porno sooner or later they're also known by their real name. In the U.S.A. we have the right to change it if they wish to do so.

For example Stormy Daniels (who prefers to be called that way) and Brent Corrigan .

Did he ever think about changing his legal name?

I visited an escort in NYC who told me his real name on my way to his place because the concierge downstairs wouldn't allow me to go upstairs without it.

I would suggest escorts to live in places where that's not required, unfortunately in large cities sometimes folks end up living in whatever place is available.

The concierge certainly got a nice Christmas bonus every year because of not talking about how many guests would come to a certain apt. ;)

If Tristan Wsters' and Kristian from Texas and then Los Angeles are able give at least some personal information why are you so upset about it? They both are well known and have been around for a long time.
