Birch St., Olas, Marlin Beach Hotel. Those were the days - never to return, I guess.

Nothing ever beat "The Boulevard," in L.A., though. Although the area around Rounds Bar and Stella's in NYC were pretty good, too.

South Beach! Warsaw Ballroom! Barrio! Nameless hole in the wall clubs set up in storefronts next to pawn shops! $250 apt rent! I can remember going there before it became a hotspot, it was deadsville. My impression was Miami and South Beach was a cultural desert in the early to mid 80s.

Good article about the South Beach bubble, that mostly appears to have burst now.

Gays leave unfriendly South Beach for Fort Lauderdale

Not to be indelicate, but the financial innovation of poz guys being able to sell their life insurance policies for cash helped turn South Beach around, at least in part.

Which was the Miami hustler park where Mario Rubio got arrested?

Wainwright Park, wasn't it? It happened in 1990, when he was 18.

Of course, "Mario" was only the name he gave to men he met in the park. ;)

Years later, when he ran for president using a different first name, he had some spokesman say that the arrest was for drinking beer in the park after hours … and that he was never taken into custody … and that he never had to appear in court.

I wonder if Mario swallowed....the beer?

Thank God guy’s like me saw the chance of a lifetime in Logan Circle in DC.

We gays are always looking for a new opportunity, let’s just wonder where is the next Ft. Lauderdale!

If you are one of the gays who invested in property in Logan Circle during its “bad days”, you certainly made a SMART decision.

The actual circle went from a park filled with crackheads and surrounded by “hotels”, that sold rooms by the hour, and now has changed into row houses, where each floor now sells for over $1M!!!
