However, when dealing with prostitution and the Paragonya sauna, I suspect that most workers do not get a work permit.

Tracking workers to confirm that they have a work permit would be an almost impossible job.

When you enter Paragonya sauna), the hustlers are from numerous countries, including many from Brazil.  Most, but not all of the hustlers are found in the sauna for only a few days to a few weeks, most, never to return after they leave Switzerland.

I suspect that most (or all) of the hustlers did not go through the Swiss government to get a permit to work at Paragonya as a hustler or legal male prostitute.

As many of us know from traveling to saunas around the world, most hustlers are "straight" or at least they claim they are.  I personally know some that are married with children.  I believe that they would not go through the government asking for a work permit to legally work as a male prostitute.

EU tax people are pretty harsh. All the guys i know are scared of them and i'm sure if they know untaxed income is coming out of Paragonya they harass. They don't care about the sex work but they do about untaxed income.

Would you be so kind and tell me how the Swiss government could track cash income made to hustlers who are in the city for only a short period of time.

The sex transactions are paid in cash to the hustler.  Where is a physical record of the transaction (there is only a verbal transaction)?

For the Swiss government to hire enough people to physically watch for untaxed small cash transactions to tax would be impractical and a waste of government money.

Remember, the hustlers are in the sauna only a short time - -  then they are gone.

How would the government even know the true names of the hustlers or an address or anything else about them?

Hence they crackdown on the sauna operator... Whose name and address they know.

There is no "crackdown" at the sauna.

I talked with a long-term bartender last week and he confirmed that the story about hustlers being forbidden is a joke.  All is the same at Paragonya with respect to hustlers.

Even if the sauna owner released the names of the hustlers who visit Paragonya, most hustlers are there for only a few days or a few weeks, at most, then they move on to another country to practice their trade or they return to their home country.

Do you really think that the Swiss government is going to spend money and manpower resources to track down a few thousand francs in unpaid income taxes from hustlers that are no longer in Switzerland?

I will be in Zurich in June. I am wondering if Paragonya is still worth a visit?

Given I like muscular guys, should I visit Paragonya or book online via Romeo etc.?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Why not both?

You can always visit the sauna and enjoy the facilities and just browse, and have a Romeo date arranged for later in the evening

Hey good afternoon, I'm an escort who lives in Europe and I've worked in Paragonia and I know how everything works, yes it's true, the swiss police are extremely strict and they are even on Grindr, checking for illegal prostitutes, believe me it's real, there are swiss policemen on Grindr checking. They check the hotels, every night the police go to the hotels to get the list of guests, especially the hotels near the paragoni. There are policemen who stay undercover around the sauna, and some pretend to be customers. There is also surveillance inside the sauna, They know everything and monitor everything. What happens is that the guys don't stay long, because they know about the surveillance and the police let the illegals act to create evidence. The Swiss police are agile and they are very vigilant. There are also other escorts who are legal and when someone new arrives they report them to avoid competition. I've had friends arrested in Switzerland for being reported by another escort. There are some who manage to work in Paragonia for months without being caught, being very discreet, but most of them are visited by the police in the hotel itself. They're like that, it's not because of money or taxes, it goes far beyond that. Switzerland is a small and very controlled country, if something happens it's because they're allowing it, but they know what's going on and it's all being analyzed. I lived in Zurich for 8 months and I know the place very well. There are many factors why they persecute illegal sex workers, but that's in Zurich, in other cantons it's more relaxed like Lausanne, the mentality in Zurich is different.

I have been to Paragonya countless times.  I have never seen or heard of the Swiss police trying to arrest guys hustling.

Considering the tiny amount of income tax that is being ignored, it does not  make sense to pay higher earning police to spend so much time trying to catch hustlers who do not pay the Swiss government the small amount of tax that is lost.  Could it be that someone exaggerated an erroneous rumor?

I will be returning to Paragonya this fall and will do my own assessment of the situation.

I've literally been approached by female prostitutes trailed by older women (I assume pimps) at night in the area. THAT kind of prostitution is actually illegal.

Prostitution is legal in Switzerland. It costs about $50 annually for a permit and it includes free sti testing. There's literally no reason to be off the books. I suspect the claims are overblown, and this person might be fear-mongering

Hey, unfortunately it's not an exaggeration, I imagine that for those who are even from outside this world they shouldn't receive some information, I recommend you talk to some Latin escorts in the sauna, nothing I said is an exaggeration, it's just experience of a reality that exists for many escorts who are willing to work illegally in Switzerland, especially Latinos. Yes, what I said is real. And I find your view funny because I hadn't thought that there are many people who don't know this, and looking from the outside it seems a bit crazy, and it really is. I can say that this is real because I've had problems with the Swiss police for not being registered and I know countless friends who have experienced this. I was held for 15 days until I was deported. They caught me at the hotel. I worked at Paragonia and had €700 in my backpack, which they kept for me. I was banned from entering Switzerland for 3 years. I know friends who went through the same thing, and some of them filed lawsuits against the country. I imagine it must be something new for you, but from what they tell me in the United States there are also some prohibitions and you can also be arrested for prostitution in some states, this is what I've heard in the United States, I can't say for sure but they say that in the US it is also illegal.

Yes, in the U.S. prostitution is illegal.

However, because both the provider and the customer are aware of the law, much caution is taken when engaging.

Once in a rare occasion, in various cities in the U.S., police will place an advertisement with a provider site like "rentmen.eu" or a similar prostitution site to make a fake "reservation" in order to make an arrest of an unsuspecting gay guy answering the fake police ad.

The police do not wear a uniform when they meet with the person responding to their bogus advertisement.  The police ask the gay guy for money in advance.  As soon as the money is given to the asking cop, suddenly several cops appear on the scene to make an arrest of the unsuspecting gay guy.

One has to wonder what goes through the minds of the cops that engage in this type of law enforcement.  Where is the victim?  Our tax dollars at work protecting society - sure!

Not everywhere.  In Nevada where I live, prostitution is only illegal in 2 of its 16 counties.  Prostitution criminalization is a state issue, not a national one.  The feds get involved when it comes to immigrants working without the proper paperwork.  Just like the issue at Paragonya Sauna Zurich, it seems to be one of breaking immigration law and not local prostitution laws.  Get that work visa and pay those income taxes!

Thank you for bringing this to my attention

We all can learn things everyday.

I looked at the prostitution rules for Nevada.  They are complicated.  Although men are allowed to be prostitutes, their customers must be women.

For anyone interested in reading the history of Nevada's wishy-washy prostitution rules, here is a brief summary:

So the prostitutes in legally exempt counties, upon retirement, tend to settle in Washoe County, say, Reno, as no longer needing to reside in locations where not running afoul of the law?

I just got off the phone with a Swiss friend who works at Paragonya.

You are correct, almost.

First you are correct that the Swiss authorities will visit Paragonya and other places of prostitution.  However, they are simply looking to see that all prostitutes have paid their mild registration fee AND have taken advantage of the testing services of the government.  The government also wants to see that a tax return is filed for long-time prostitutes that have been in Switzerland for several years.

So, it appears that the authorities went to the sauna and got access to the identification records of escorts who were required to have their identification copied (and those copies are retained by the sauna) in order to work at the sauna.

It would be easy for the government employees to compare the names of Paragonya sauna escorts with registered prostitutes.  If there is a name at Paragonya that does not appear on the government registration of prostitutes, of course the Swiss government would then ask if any information is known about the non-register worker.  That being the case, if it was known that a worker is staying at a particular hotel , it would be easy for the Swiss police to go there to make the arrest you described.

In short, the government is not after prostitutes except to see that they are registered and tested in accordance with local rules.  And, if the worker had been in Switzerland a number of years, that a tax return had been filed.

Seems like the rumor got just a bit away from reality.

The rules and infrasupports are laid out very clearly. For example, this particular canton. All this detail and it merely covers Swiss or EU members. It’s Swiss efficiency and tidiness. Unless one is a client yet also a sex worker or pimp, it needn’t concern one. My little head isn’t on the hunt for licensing credentials and income tax declaration evidence. Obviously, many cannot easily meet the requirements, or as long a period of time per entry as hoped, and will run afoul of the regulatory structure whether caught or not.

This tracks with Zurich's general ethos. It's a world financial hub where wealthy people conduct business. They want safe, clean temporary companionship, and it seems like Zurich just wants to ensure that

Paragonya is back on track, still the UN of rent boys.  The only negative is some of the providers are heavily (as in full body) tattooed. And the USD is very weak, add 21% on to all prices.
