I consider myself fairly “worldly” and I had no idea there were sheets that cost as much as Frette or Sferra Giza. Now I wish I hadn’t found out...new goal!

Frette pops up fairly regularly on sites like Gilt. Still costly but it does bring them within reach.

Sheets are one of those ultra-personal choices that runs the gambit in responses.

Frette are great sheets when I'm in a hotel, but I don't want them in my home. They take a decent amount of care when it comes to laundering, pressing, etc. I learned early on that in spending that kind of money on a set, you can easily ruin them (and I did).

I love Brooklinen, The Company Store, Parachute and LL Bean for percale sheets.

I once saw a sleep study and it found people migrate all over their bed while sleeping. Do you wake up in exactly the same place you fell asleep?

To do a test you could place a coin in the middle of the other side of the bed on the lower sheet and see if it has moved by the morning. ?

If it's a hot summer night and I don't have the air conditioner, I might meander a bit. Otherwise I'm one of those people who occupy just one spot on the bed. I can pretty much tell because the sheets and blankets on the other half remain undisturbed. It might be habit from sharing a bed with my brother when we young. :( I graduated to my own bed at some point, but it was always a single until I was out of college.

well, one downside I can think of is that that decorative trim (hem-like) thing on the flat/top sheet that would normally be at the top/head end of the bed would end up at the bottom, right?......that might give me a bit of a "world turned upside down"-feel while sleeping??!!......also, my Mother was stickler for making sure the "top" of the flat/top sheet was facing down so, when pulled back at the top/head, that decorative hem/trim would face up with the neater sewing finish exposed.....

I also only sleep on one side of my queen-size bed, but don't rotate the sheets because, well,......(see above!)

however, the fitted/bottom sheet could definitely be rotated, it seems....

How about solving the problem with the hem-like thing by just flipping the top sheet, not rotating it? Hmmm.... That way the hem stays at the top of the bed where it belongs. I'm not as fastidious as your mom (I don't think so anyway) so I don't mind if the top sheet is facing up or down. There's some controversy about what side of the top sheet goes up or down anyhow. One might think the bottom stitching on the hem faces down, but then when you turn down the bed like in a fancy hotel, the stitching would be facing up! God forbid!

Most times when I’m in a hotel, I have an escort with me. So we don’t pay much attention when we turn down the covers.

When I get into my room at a hotel, I always put the Do not disturb sign on the door. I don’t want the chamber maids interfering in my arrangements at all. If I need anything done like extra towels, I meet them in the hallway.

Is there a particular kind, type you like?

On the Australian soap opera "Neighbours" there is a straight couple and he won't spend the night at her place because he doesn't like her sheets.

In fact when his brother and boyfriend recently got married he gave them bed sheets as a wedding gift.

The kind he likes is French Flax Linen.

Huge believer in bamboo sheets. Amazingly strong, soft as silk and cool to the touch, we are huge converts. Especially LOVE product from Cariloha!

I think linen sheets would be too warm. I've owned a couple of linen shirts and never wore either too much because they were so uncomfortable. I like microfiber sheets because they are so lightweight. I think I probably would like bamboo sheets for the same reason.

A client gave me two sets of Frette Sheets as a gift. Over the next 18 years I loved and lavished those sheets. They are fragile, they constantly ripped in the washing machine, and I'd bring them to the tailor for expensive repairs. Eventually, both sets became unusable and now all I have are a few square patches to rub against my cheek, a reminder of a time I was given, and struggled to maintain, true Luxury.

In the Loro Piana shop they sell a cashmere bed throw for around 30K... :) I wonder who buys these...

I am all in favor of cashmere throws. They do not have to be Loro Piana. Wait for them to be on sale somewhere right as winter is ending. I don't use them for my bed because I tend to have a down comforter which does the job. They are really warm and wonderful to drape over you while you watch TV.
