I've been there. I enjoyed the aerial tramway. I remember later seeing a twink porn that had a scene with the two guys making out in the tram car. I wondered what the other passengers thought about seeing that.

There are plenty of places in the the world to go for gay scenes. The best thing about Palm Springs is the half of the population that is straight. You don't have to go to a specifically gay neighborhood to feel at home, because no one cares very much whether you are gay or straight. You just blend in, regardless of your sexual orientation.

I grew up in Southern California and I hate heat. I could care less whether it is dry heat or humid heat -- I hate HEAT. Since I associate heat with the desert I hate the desert. I also hate desert colors, I like blue and green NOT sand and beige. Until the last ten years or so I avoided Palm Springs like the plague. Then Steven Kesslar bought a home in the area and Oliver winters there. I now visit with some frequency and at certain times of the year it isn't totally awful.

While certain towns and neighborhoods are loosing their gay ghetto aspect Palm Springs is totally different. It has never really been a gay ghetto. For years Palm Springs was a get away place for the Hollywood crowd. Much of that crowd is gay and the rest tends to be very gay accepting. As middle and higher income gays in the colder areas of the U.S. retire Palm Springs will prosper. Palm Springs has become a magnet for gay snow birds. It has numerous resort both gay and non-gay and a growing number of outstanding restaurants and bars. Some "foolish" individuals live there all year. It is also true the housing is very affordable.

The winter weather allows for great tennis and golf. For the more adventurous there is excellent hiking in the immediate Palm Springs area as well as in Idyllwild.

You might say that my attitude toward Palm Springs has matured to the point that I understand what some guys love about it but it still isn't my cup of tea.

I'd say that anyone who appreciates well-preserved mid-century modern architecture should visit PS.

The gay scene there reminds me of what's happening in Key West... It's dying out. Literally.

Just stayed at a relative’s cozy and classy mid-century home a few weeks ago. And saw the scene dying on the wrinkled vine.

.... It was 115 degrees. We were melting. Neither of us could ever imagine going back, let alone living there.

I wouldn't want to be there now either. But in February, March, and April - when I'm there - it's wonderful! I live in Ohio and most people here go to Florida, especially the Gulf Coast to escape winter. I don't happen to like Florida - too humid, too buggy, too many old people (;):D - who me?) who go to dinner at 4 pm. But PS is just fine - especially if you have a pool at your disposal. And the restaurants available are varied and reasonable. Come to The Weekend and you'll see what I mean!:)

Actually it's spreading out. Literally. Palm Springs real estate prices have climbed to such a degree that many are discovering that their money goes much farther a bit to the east, in places like Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert.

But the farther east you go in the Coachella Valley, the straighter it becomes.

The only thing I hate about Palm Springs is having to leave. I can't wait until Wayne and I can move there. But that's years away, so for now, we have to settle for going there as often as we can. Which is pretty damn often; we already have at least half a dozen weekend trips planned between now and the end of the year. :)

This evening I made a thread about porn stars in the Gallery. Among them was one of the twinks. His name was Christian Taylor a pretty blond. I remember after they made out in the tram car there was a sex scene on a lounge chair by the pool at a motel and another scene in a room on a bed.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Just found the video online. His scene partner is Aaron Nichols.

I only visited once during the height of summer. I found the weather truly horrible. Most days were around 120 degrees and it was still ridiculously hot outside well after dark. If I recall correctly, it was still over 100 degrees around 10 at night. If I decided to move there as a retiree I'd be desperately trying to figure out ways to get away for as much of the summer as possible. I like the weather there during the spring and fall, though -- very warm during the day but cools off at night.

Beyond the weather, I like Palm Springs. Some nice restaurants, some nice places to hike in the area, and just generally a feeling of a pleasant small city. Then again, I've been suffering through the decline of San Francisco for the past three decades and, at this point, I think I'd rather live almost anywhere else that has a sizable gay population than here. San Francisco has truly become a dump.

Well, not exactly. In the last 80 years, the temperature in Palm Springs has reached 120F a total of 16 times. Today might boost that to 17 times.

The average summer high is a dozen degrees cooler — which is hotter than hell!
