It’s odd how some of the strangest posts come from Novice members.

3 possible reasons:

1. People that write strange posts, hard to understand posts or who express opinions that are don't get very popular, simply don't feel welcome and leave. So they never get to become "Knights" or "Lords" or above.

2. Weird people often get in trouble and get banned. Then, when they are allowed to come back after some downtime, they have lost interest in this forum.

3. Regular posters know what is helpful to others, or how to ask for advice in way that will bring answers to them, simply because they have more experience, and so they do not post too many "weirdities"

Define "strange" please.

That is hard, just like porn, but "I know it when I see it" maybe applies.

However, here is a recent example:

for sure is Eric Hanson former porn star because i have an apointment whit him like 4 years ago and was a good experience he is now more mature but still lookling good and sexy

he is fake and i know for sure i have a dialog whit himn i can paste here where he tollme he using pic look like him but is nor really his pic

jc pinto blockedme in rentmen because i confront him whit his fake pic he took here in the internet from somebody, and in the past he have diferent pic in his profile

As a long-time lurker, I can also add that some newbies seem to come here specifically to pursue a vendetta against a provider or client, or to promote his own services under cover of a pseudonym. It's usually fairly obvious and the newbie gets banned, or shut down by actual members, or just gets bored and takes his trolling elsewhere.

Some of the posts in question seem to indicate English is not the posters' primary language

Could be, but if you fix the spelling and punctuation, it shows actually a very good mastering of English to me. Mastering English so well, yet not knowing that punctuation is required is still quite strange.

We can ask him, @lasagnac , is English you first language?

I do recognize those characteristics in many newbies posts, as well as a lack of knowledge of the tools and procedures in these forums. What I do not fully understand is their qualification as "strange". I do find that many posts are strange, but often they are not coming from newbies but from veteran posters that seem to have a compelling need to post stuff, any stuff, opening countless threads.

Which leads me to feel some kind of way about them. If there's an actual question and someone needs help, I get it, but otherwise I wind up feeling skeptical of their bona fides. There's social awkwardness and there's cluelessness.

Maybe they shouldn't be, but to me a 58 yo that writes like an illiterate teenager, refuses to use punctuation, capitalisation and autocorrect is quite strange.

This is the first time I see it, in fact. Maybe I need to get out more.

No, actually that's not so strange other than it's written in an illogical non sequitur style. What I don't get are those who come in metaphorical guns blazing seemingly seeking to stir up controversy.

I lurked for a long time before posting. Actually, I just focused on the Gallery before I realized how much information there was to be had in the rest of the forum. Doing that, I got a feel for how to search for information before posting questions, how to ask questions in ways that encouraged responses, and I already took some care to write sensibly.

I lurked for a while before I made my first post. A newbie posting can be someone rehashing something because they have done no searching to see if it is a topic already covered, or someone trying to stir the pot just to get a rise out of people.

The rankings under the username is a great tool here. A provocative post by someone who has been around would carry more weight to me than one by someone who has just joined on.

I'm not telling anyone anything they don't know, but the internet is full of people who just want to make trouble. If the others on the board don't respond there, they don't get the joy out of it.

Everyone is a newbie at some point. Some are legit, some aren't. I think this board is pretty savvy about quickly figuring things out.

Those who come with an axe to grind are easy to target: Trolls can't help but show their obsessive nature.

True, but they can make an unpleasant splash anyway.

I agree the best thing to do is ignore someone new who's clearly trying to stir the pot.

It has nothing to do with the language. This whole thread could have been written in any other one other than English.

Strangeness is subjective,

Yes, that is actually what I meant.

that is why I asked to the OP for his definition.

Then I will let the OP give his definition if he wants to.

But don’t ask me mine: as I said, I know it when I see it, and that is about all I can say about the concept behind the words “strange”, “strano”, “étrange”, “estranho”, “stranga”, “странный” and “seltzam”.
