I know it's necessary for the propagation and preservation of the human species. But why so many? It's 90%. I'd think 10% would be sufficient. Doesn't seem natural. Only a male can truly appreciate the beauty of another male. When it comes to appearance males have been graced with the more attractive, enticing looks. Examples: the lion with his mane, the peacock with his feathers and the human male is the culmination of evolutionary perfection!

uhm... is this a serious thought. Are you all stream of consciousness right now. I can’t even... with this topic. o_O:D

...but you answered your own subject question, so I’ll move on to the second thought.

The statement that only a male can appreciate the beauty of another male... never made sense to me. We are not all monolithic in the way we think or feel. Btw in not all species of animals are the males more physically attractive (as it were) than the female in terms of color and decoration. For example, spiders. And yes, I know people generally find spiders icky. Lol!

What one man or woman finds beautiful in another man or woman can be so subjective. You made a post sometime back listing a bunch of very attractive guys (imho) that you called all scary looking and unattractive. I thought to myself what is this man drinking. :p You compared them to the Bel Ami type actors who you find to be beautiful. I didn’t comment then because I figured that’s his type. More power to him. To me, Bel Ami actors aren’t the apex of male attractiveness. I’m not attracted to one type, btw.

Although I’m far more sexually attracted to men, I find beauty/attractiveness in both the male and female form. Maybe that’s the artistic side of me coloring my aesthetic outlook. As the saying goes beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Maybe a higher percentage of that 90% only think they are heterosexual? Gotta think what your peers tell you to think... you know, be "normal". When Raquel Welch asks in Myra Breckinridge "what is normal?", Farrah Fawcett answers "Well... it's what everyone does". Not necessarily what everyone desires.

There is so much that is offensive about this old movie, although audiences back in 1970 were disgusted about completely different scenes than modern viewers may be disgusted over. No doubt "the majority" that Farrah discusses agreed with Rusty's homophobic comments made while Mae West instructed him in song that "you gotta taste all of the fruit"... bananas included.

I don't remember the exact percentages published regarding homosexuality vs. bisexuality vs. heterosexuality in America, but I am pretty certain that 1940s Kinsey had a higher percentage for homosexuality vs. 1960s Masters & Johnson due to how society became more repressed (post-McCarthy) during the in-between years. When answering an anonymous questionnaire, people were less honest about both their desires and what they did physically. Also Kinsey himself was bisexual, if happily married, while the latter pair was confident in their "heteronormality" and that added a certain bias to their work.

Masters did try to "cure" homosexuals with conversion therapies in the late sixties and early seventies that he claimed were effective. Early on, he probably thought it was necessary, but I saw an A&E Biography show featuring him telling Tom Brokaw that he only did this for those who wanted to be converted. Remember too that it was viewed as a mental disorder until the seventies.

Bottom line: human beings are social animals who must be accepted by their pack/herd/group. Likewise so much religion and social structure was established in an earlier agricultural time when it was important to produce as many children as possible. Only since the late 1990s, with some progress made in the '70s before the AIDS epidemic destroyed so much, were gays accepted as anything vaguely "normal".

On another thread, it is suggested that most gay men lose their virginity in their late teens. That may be true if most interviewed are under 35 years in age and entered puberty since the 90s when some of the stigmas started to subside. If you asked many over that age, my suspicion is that "losing virginity" meant doing so with a female. Many who wanted their "first time" with a male had to wait until they were confident family members and employers wouldn't reject them if they knew. Even today, I still don't believe nearly enough "mainstream" Americans (leading The Pack) are that accepting of the LGBT even though many more are today than a decade or more back.

I've been continually surprised just how many "straight" married men fool around a bit in public steamrooms. I do not think these men think of themselves as anything other than straight though, to them what they do with guys is just helping each other jerk off so it doesn't "count." It's like part of their brain shuts off and segregates the information/experience and I'm sure they would never cop to doing stuff with guys on a survey.

Burr is awesome. Turns the founding myth of the US on its head. One of my all time favorites. Highly recommended.

One married co-worker I talked to said he hadn't had sex in close to 10 years with his wife and men seemed a "safer" alternative than another woman. He is attractive, but I won't do anything with somebody whose wife I know. I don't know if she knows he fools around with men-but yeah he considers himself straight. He keeps telling me I should have just married had kids and then had men on the side.

Is this a trollish thread or a serious question? I honestly cannot tell. Our species has men who have sex and procreate with females because it's neccessary for our species' survival. The ratios worked many tens of thousands of years ago when lifespans were much shorter. That's part of one of our many problems now: we have far too many children--far beyond replacement rates--even as more and more resources are consumed per capita.

The identity of heterosexuality, like homosexuality and bisexuality, is a culturally constructed concept that is barely 150 years old. If we're going to talk about this topic, it's important to understand cultural context and concept history.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminology_of_homosexuality

I'm going to assume this thread isn't really about diving into complex ideas like sexual orientation, romantic orientation, and sexual activity.

No, as far as we know, there isn't some sex-specific limit on aesthetic appreciation of the human male body or the human female body. It all depends on cultural context, life experiences, and a person's own interests. I presume this is in reference to the often true, "guys suck better" or some such similar "common sense." That isn't some biologic limit. All it means is that male humans have an advantage over women--just as women have over men for female bodies--regarding "what typically feels good" for a body like theirs. Experience easily overcomes that slight advantage.

Regarding the "males are more attractive" point made above, that's basic evolutionary biology. In nearly all bird species the male is more colorful than the female. Here's a helpful article that breaks down many of the possible reasons for male birds being so showy.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-are-male-birds-more-c/

Regarding the lion comment, male lions aren't the only lions with manes. Some female lions--called lionesses--have manes too. Oh and the mane isn't just decorative though debates continue about why male lions have manes. Here's a fun article about how temperature helps determine how robust a lion's mane might become.

Gays are asked why did they choose to be gay; they didn't. Homosexuality is normal and natural. People are born that way just like some people are born left-handed. Sexuality is neutral; neither good nor bad - it just is. Part of the evolutionary construct. A male homosexual is not just some "chick with a dick".

With short life spans and high infant mortality there was a reason for a high percentage of heterosexuals for the human race to continue. But now with the advances in health care evolution may begin producing more homosexuals.

I don't believe anyone is entirely heterosexual. So many examples of things guys did in my youth that I thought if I did would make me seem gay. Slapping a guy on the ass for a great sports play, or looking deliberately at another person's hung penis in a shower. How many times have we heard so-called straight guys use the excuse of experimentation with other men that they were "drunk and in college"? Truth is, all men are attracted to other men who are in great shape, and DESIRE to look that good themselves.

I envy the opposite sex for being able to be freely sexual by comparison, and rarely have their sexuality questioned to the same degree. I by no means wish I was a woman, however, as while my genitals may be super small compared to the masses, I love what I got, and can love whoever I want!

I have often wondered if I should have done the same thing. A few years back I met a woman about my age who herself had never married and we would go ogle boys together at bachelor auction fundraiser type things, and a mutual friend said to me, "in another life I think you two would have been married." And I think we'd have made good co-parents.

If I could go back in time I think I might actually look for a woman I could be honest with about it and have an open marriage. I've never actually had a "relationship" with a guy.

Why Are People Heterosexual?

So they can do disgusting things like this:

Two firefighters in Ohio have been suspended for making pornographic videos at a firehouse.

Akron officials say Arthur Dean and Deann Eller were both placed on administrative leave on Monday while the city launched an investigation into the matter.

Fire Chief Clarence Tucker says someone told a firefighter last week about the acts possibly being performed on city property. The firefighter reported it to his supervisor, who then told the chief.

Tucker and Mayor Dan Horrigan said in a joint statement that Dean and Eller did not work at the same fire station, but were known to be in a long-term relationship.

Officials have not identified the firehouse where the videos took place.

A spokesman for the local firefighters’ union says Eller and Dean have no comment.

I dunno about peacocks, strutin' around with that rainbow flag plumage. Pretty sure they're all gay. :)

Humans tend to be pretty flexible with their sexuality when you disrupt their access to the opposite sex.

Mother nature wants you to propagate.

....but if the usual flowers aren't in bloom....most men eventually find the availability of a same sex partner too tempting to let pre-conditioned settings too much influence over the choice of an available warm hole.

Oh, I think we do know otherwise. Libido is essentially determined by testosterone levels. Trans men will tell you that their experience as sexual beings totally changed once they went on testosterone (as have my T-deficient patients who were put back on physiological T levels). Although women can in a certain sense appreciate male beauty, gay men go goofy over male beauty on a wholly different level. I hired a gorgeous bi escort a year or so ago. He told me that when he goes to gay bars, men come to him like bees to honey. When he goes to straight bars, he has to make the effort, and then the women couldn’t care less about his looks, but rather about his job and ability to provide. I’m surprised this is news to anyone.

Rather I think the male just wants to "get off". Breeding is just an accident.
