I’m a fan of local “old school” delis, so Sherman’s is always a stop for me.

Cooper, thank you for your ongoing efforts to check on Daddy's status and to keep us apprised. The dialysis news is concerning, but not surprising. My father required dialysis the last few years of his life and I learned that the kidneys and lungs are the two organs that do most of the cleansing of toxins so if one is compromised, the other often falters from strain. At least dialysis, though debilitating, is an effective means of cleansing toxins. Ultimately, though, the lungs need to do their part. I also know, as my mom was diabetic, that diabetes can compromise the kidneys. So Daddy has at least two factors contributing to kidney failure.

Most concerning to me is his enduring lack of responsiveness. It does sound, though, that he is getting every opportunity to rebound. That leaves room for hope.

Based on my experience with my father, I know that sedatives can depress the function of one's organs, so ceasing the sedation is a means to give Daddy a better/purer chance of having his body do the most it's capable of doing.

While depressing, this news at least, for me, suggests his doctors are not writing him off and are doing all sorts of sensible things to give him the best chance of pulling through.

Again, thank you for all you have done.

Update: Friday, March 26th: called the hospital to get an update on Guy’s condition. It’s now 1 month since he was found unconscious on the floor of his apartment.

    Some changes from Monday’s update.
He now has the tracheotomy replacing the tube down his throat. He’s no longer being sedated or receiving any pain medication. He’s unresponsive to any commands and hasn’t opened his eyes this week. His blood pressure remains high. I asked about his organs. This is the 1st time I was told he’s on dialysis. He’s still on the ventilator and his skin sores are not healing.

This medical report was difficult for me to hear and I’m sure it’s difficult for all to read. We’ve been keeping Guy Fawkes/daddy in our thoughts and hoping for the best. As I mentioned earlier, he’s been unconscious for a month and the reports haven’t shown any signs of recovering.

If anyone wants to visit Guy in the hospital, please send me a PM for the details.

Wish I had better news to share.
    Cooper

Just got rid of cable two weeks ago and am glad! I tried to get rid of it last year but Spectrum offered me free high speed internet (1 Gbps) if I kept cable so I did.
I share streaming services (netflix, hbo max, disney+) with two other friends who live alone and i've found it helps me save some money each month.

Sorry for this Bluefin. I think it's ok to have a crush on your masseur as long as it doesn't start to become toxic to your emotional/mental health. I think the majority of guys (especially those who are single) are always in the search for a human connection and human touch is an amazing feeling.

Depending on where you are staying downtown and how much luggage you have, you could actually walk from the airport to your destination. Unlike many cities, the airport is across the street from City Hall.

Thx. I made a reservation with Hertz late last week for a "manager's special" car. I just checked today and Hertz looks like it's sold out for that weekend (April 9-12) so am glad I at least have a reservation.

That's great! I checked Budget today and it looks like a mid-sized SUV is now over $65/day.
I read in the news that some rental car places run out of cars (even for those people who made a reservation) so am hoping I'll be ok. I did look at other options in case Hertz runs out of cars or if Uber/Lyft are crazy prices and it looks like there is public transportation called SunBus that goes to PSP airport to downtown Palm Springs once an hour. Normally it's $1 for the ride but due to pandemic they are currently not collecting fares.
SunBus fare suspended until May 2nd: https://www.sunline.org/riding-sunline/pricing

I don’t get hard spanking. It hurts. And when I was a boy, I attended a private school for boys where being beaten on the buttocks was practiced by the masters and prefects. It left an indelible mark on me and while my parents paid good money for me to suffer corporal punishment, I wouldn’t spend my own money for the same.

For those of you who follow stars/singers coming out, you'll know that Ty Herndon a country singer came out in 2014.

But there had been rumors for years. Back in 1995 he was arrested in a park in Ft. Worth Texas. The arresting officer said Ty had lured him there and then exposed himself. Ty was also found to have drugs (speed) on him. Ty was married at the time to a female nurse. Ty claimed he was just going in to the park to relieve himself before the show. He was able to get out of the indecency charge and the drug charge was reduced through a plea bargain to rehabilitation and community service. I think the gay rumors persisted.

I was actually living in Ft Worth at the time-in my 30's, closeted, and a total virgin-had never even Fr. kissed anyone (male or female). I found him totally hot. And even before the arrest I think I had a crush on him.

I loved this video of his-used to think he was so handsome in it (still do).

Around 2010 I was on a weekend with an escort. I won't name him as he's retired and still uses his escort name as a pen-name. For some reason Ty came up. The escort wasn't a county western fan-and for the most part neither am I. So I can't remember exactly. Maybe we were talking about famous people the escort had met in the line of business-maybe one of Ty's songs was being played where we were at. But I think I remember the escort could barely recall Ty's name. I mentioned about the indecency incident that at that point had happened 10 or so years before. And I mentioned the rumors or that Ty has denied being gay. The escort said-it's not a rumor. I don't think the escort and Ty had 'seen' each other. I think they were at a party together if I'm remembering correctly. I wasn't sure what to think exactly, but it probably fueled a few fantasies.

Then 14 years later Ty comes out. Ty has said in interviews that his two wives knew he was gay. And that his band mates always knew.

Ty and his boyfriend (wish that were me-actually I'd take either Ty or the boyfriend ) when he came out in 2014.

Since coming out, he's done outreach with gay youth.

I missed this totally. But at the age of 57 in 2019 on the 25th anniversary of recording it, he re-did his 1st number one song from 1995, 'What Mattered Most,' and changed the pronouns to male. I find it really moving. The title of this thread isn't sarcastic. I'm not quite there. But I'm close to getting tears with it. Even without the tears, I find it very moving.

So I thought I'd share it in case people had missed it.

Thanks so much, @Cooper, for your support of Daddy. You've been a lifesaver, no doubt.

One blessing is that Covid cases and deaths in Nevada are down 80% from post-Christmas peaks. I can't find any info on ICU capacity, but I'd expect that enough ICU beds, healthcare workers and ventilators are available to support the high level of care Daddy is receiving.

He's had some good breaks so far, your intervention being a major one. We can hope good fortune stays on his side.

I highly recommend it! I’d also recommend sorting out a Medical Proxy, and a POA. If you’re single and/or not close (emotionally or geographically) to your family, I cannot emphasise how important it is to have someone you know and trust, who knows what you want, to have the authority to make medical decisions for you if you cannot. Same when it comes to paying bills, and such when you cannot. Of course, all this should go hand in glove with drafting a Will.

Yes, it is pretty cool knowing someone for 45 years who is gay too. There have been a few funny moments thru the years where we’ve shared stories only to find out the other had either been there already, or the other had no idea a mutual friend enjoyed m2m time on occasion. With this hobby, we also share recommendations of certain providers we’ve enjoyed. We’ve joked about winding up moving in together in our declining years, and scandalising the neighbours with our younger, hunky visitors! ?

I just recently settled my arrangements for when my time comes, which I hope is not for many decades ??I’ve had a number of deaths this past year, tho none from Covid, and I kept hearing “I hope this is what he/she wanted” from the bereaved. As a single man, I realised I better sort out what I want to save the headache when I’m gone.

The arrangements are with the same family owned funeral home here in NYC that’s been handling the wakes, and funerals for my family for over 110 years. Picked out my casket, memorial cards, type of wake, songs and readings for the funeral, where I’m to be buried, etc.. I’ll be waked there, funeral mass at our family church, and burial in my father’s family plot - there’s four or five generations there, and I’ll be the last one to be gathered to my forebears.

My oldest friend (we met in kindergarten!) is also my lawyer, and now executor (as well as an enthusiast of the hobby we all share here), and he has all the details, as well as who will be pallbearers, do the readings, eulogy, what I’ll wear, what to bury with me, and most importantly, he’s to make sure there is a big luncheon after all the rites are concluded with a full open bar.

It may not be a pleasant task - planning one’s funeral - but as we get older, and especially if you’re single, it is something that has to be done.
