I am sorry to hear that you had to experience this behavior. People will say hurtful things to their closest family, things they won’t say to absolute strangers. That has always surprised me.

My family hasn’t been this bad. I could claim that it is because I am so fabulous (of course I am!), but it is mainly because they believe I am rich and they hope to inherit when my wicked ways finally do me in.   If only they knew I plan to spend it all before I go, on boys and booze!! 😆

Me too.  My kin are getting nuthin'.

That said, kudos to the above that have set clear limits.  Families don't change, yet it makes sense to set clear limits on their offending behavior so they'll at least get it.

  2. I am looking at the bigger picture, what exactly is this show about.   Steven Moffat (“Doctor Who,” “Sherlock”) adapted “The Time Traveler’s Wife” into an HBO series because he’s a fan of the book.  `NYPost

I understand that the blow job scene is straight out of the book that this show is based on, so I like the way the author's mind focused on what a young man might do if given the opportunity.

What caught my attention is how handsome Theo James is and how often he's naked.   Yeah, I know, that sounds pretty shallow.   But also Steven Moffat has a way that appeals.

Is the crypto party over?  Wonder what your co-workers are saying🤔.

By now I know not to bring it up, because they can become quite an ear bender, how they go on and on and on about crypto.  At one point I asked the most knowledgeable of them to define the underlying value and was told "it's similar to how we value gold."   Of course that's ridiculous.  Gold has a track record spanning centuries, has various uses, and is coveted universally.  Crypto is not gold, in my mind.

For me that goes back to Warren Buffet's strategy.  I believe he looks for value and avoids anything he doesn't understand.  For me,  crypto coin fails to meet his criteria.

But again, for the newbies, if you have an urge to make big money fast and want to include crypto, I recommend instead thinking about your long term strategy, where you want to be in 30 years.    You can end up being the mailman that has a million bucks in your nest egg. or the doctor that has almost nothing saved.   (these are hypothetical examples folks, so no need to clutch your pearls.  Oprah has a show on this called the millionaire next door.)

Leave your emotions out of it and follow simple rules and strategies.    Educate yourself beyond what you read in this thread.   Find some reputable authors and read up.

At the risk of derailing a discussion that includes potentially useful advice like this, the thread asks for advice for newbies. Trying to pick high and low points in the market is something that professional investors often can't do. New players are often best advised not to attempt it. Plenty of the advice offered has been good, of course.

I doubt Buffet would buy anything right now that doesn't fit his value criteria.

So for the newbie investors, Buffet would remind to look for well run, good companies that are priced at an attractive value.

I have watched investment TV shows that invite guests to talk about including crypto in your portfolio.  I never agreed with that advice.  However, if the newbies choose to branch out into crypto funds, always remember to diversify so that your nest egg is not consumed when one asset class collapses.    A lot of guys where I work are into crypto.   They talk about it a lot!   I do worry about their stakes in crypto with the recent drop in value.

It's titled Watergate A New History, and it's written by Garrett M. Graff, the director for cyber initiatives at the Aspen Institute and author of several books. Without the notes and index, it still takes up almost 700 pages. And, it's an interesting read.

It would be easier if we hadn't just been through the Trump presidency to engage in presidential acts of 50 years ago. Nixon might seem saintly in comparison. But so tired am I of reading about presidential misdeeds that the Watergate book is not getting the attention I want to give it.

In order to keep it to one volume, things are mentioned that deserve more attention. The idea that General Al Haig was in over his head is only suggested in a footnote. But the book does allow me to revisit the Nixon years. Most of the principals are dead now, and it does seem like a long time ago. But that's history, isn't it?

Anyway, I just passed page 500.

Did the book have much to say about Martha Mitchell.
I see Netflix has a documentary on her, if i may.

I switched to Mrs Meyer’s Clean Day a while ago. Same reason. Have gotten good results so far - a little goes a long way! You can find it on Amazon if not in the store.

I went with Mrs Meyer's brand laundry detergent and also their dryer sheets for the last month.   So far, no itching.   I'm sticking with Mrs. Meyers!  👍

  7. He's a great singer, but this performance is especially beautiful.

The video begins with some very touching comments.  The performance starts at around 6:40.

Please keep any religious or political comments out of the thread.   We've heard it all before.  Thank you so much.

  8. My college reunion is coming up soon.

Being closeted in fly-over country was pretty common.  One guy has come out, but honestly, I don't know if traveling that far to see him or some of the other guys appeals to me.

My best friend in the house will be there.  It would be nice to see him again.

Maybe the weirdest part of going back is a pretty heavy bromance mixed with some sexual play I had with one guy for two years.    Even after college, we were dealing with it for a little while, though by then I no longer wanted anything  down-low like we'd been in college.  He'd hinted to me that he still did.

Several years later I was offered a job on the west coast  while he was getting ready for his 2nd marriage.   I've been out here 20+ years with no contact.

I really never knew what was going on inside his head and still don't, such as why he was in touch, encouraging me to attend.   Perhaps he is just trying to remember the good times.  Can't fault him for that.

He used to advertise years ago. He's a Russian guy, who looked like his pictures - super built and ripped. Claimed to be straight(ish). He gave a really good therapeutic deep tissue massage. as for release he generally would not do to the client (YMMV) but allowed the client to massage him while releasing themselves.  So it will not be a truly erotic experience but I recommended him as it was a great massage from a very hot guy.

To be fair, his ethnicity is not Russian, although if he was, would not be a big deal to me.  He's really a nice guy.
