I saw Dr. Mike several times. Including a few overnights.  I don't think I ever met another rentguy so adept at intuiting what his client desired. He was truly the best I ever met, if judging based on knowing exactly what to do, and smiling through it all.
I'd say I saw a few different sides of his personality.   Mostly very warm, friendly, easy going.  But we were driving through the San Francisco tenderloin when a homeless guy startled him, reaching into his window to request money.  He wasn't just startled.. he was enraged and I had to grab and restrain him as he opened the car door to go after the homeless guy.  The only way I calmed him was a warning "if you cause him to damage my car, it's coming out of your fee!"
I took some of the pictures he used in ads, probably have them somewhere.  Have copies of his YouTube on some old hard drive.
He was a little too casual with his identity for his own good.  Over the course of our visits, he showed me things on a laptop featuring his work on the wallpaper, and one night, insisted I walk with him while he spoke with his girlfriend on the phone, relating a story to her where a salesman called him by name - so I accidentally learned his real name, other job, etc.  I guess that made him trusting; he was lucky I was a good guy.
He got a little arrogant towards the end of our interactions.  I think he had a very generous client who'd book a hotel for him, but not see him every night.  I saw him for an overnight in a hotel he said he wasn't paying for.  He told me he was so popular, he'd no longer be running ads, he'd just contact clients when visiting their area.  I don't think that worked out, several months later, his ads reappeared.
All in all, I still remember Dr. Mike as one of the best I encountered.

I'm  in agreement with those who would have paid a courtesy fee to have him depart... no way I'd have paid full fee for services/agreed upon time not provided
No way of knowing, but it's a little interesting to speculate whether offering partial payment might have elicited a more animated response., ie.,  snapped him out of it.
    Sorry that happened to you.

It seems that the time to speak with him was at the time of the encounter.  Unless you had given him his fee up front, I might have considered a small, thanks for coming over but you are wasting my time payment in other words carfare. Not getting his fee might have gotten him talking.  It sounds as though he had some type of psychiatric problem and if you though that was the case, giving him the whole fee was probably the safest best.  A review here on the forum might save some others from falling into the same black hole where even sound does not escape.

I went often in the 90s.  Not quite monthly, but if there was a headliner that interested me, I might go twice that weekend.  Spend the whole day.  The headliners appeared at 1, 5  8, 11... and I'd go to all shows.  Stick around for house dancers I liked, leave for several hours if the upcoming schedule didn't appeal.
I  recall it going through phases.  Reported owner and manager changes.  Remodeling...  and different "types" of dancers.  I remember when they stopped paying dancers - told them work for tips, and they all quit.  There was a manager, Todd, who kept the place amazingly clean considering what  went on there.... sadly, he was murdered.
The very first night I walked in, Mike Nichols was performing.   He was so new there, his portrait was a polaroid.  I used to hang out on Bush Street with the performers.   One day, as Marco Rossi was leaving, I offered him a ride... he was looking for Golds Gym... and did a session with him later that night.  I hired a couple of other guys from there too.  I was infatuated with a young muscle guy who drove in from Sacramento to dance...
The busiest night was when Ryan Idol appeared... only time I saw every seat full.  A stripper group called Chicago MeatPackers put on a crazy show.   Marco Rossi appeared in one of those Ronny Larsen plays in SF...(Peep show? ).. and after the final perfor⁶mance, the after party was at nobhill.  And chi chi LaRue with entourage was there  too
I remember hanging out with young Peter Latz on the street out front of the theater... he appeared fairly regularly.   There was a wall of fame... pictures of all headliners...   Nicest guy I ever met was Eric Stone... after he died, his picture was in a place of honor on that wall.  He was a fan favorite.
Soooo many memories.   But eventually, they had dancers that didn't appeal to me.  Sparse schedules.  Had fewer and fewer headliners.   Tried building business with Bachelorette parties... the straight dancers loved those, but the regular gay patrons hated it.  So I went less and less and finally stopped going.

I had a client who just liked worshipping (if that’s what you’d call it) my dick. I’d just sit there or lay there while he knelt and played with it, sucking and using his hands on me (when he wasn’t edging himself). It could go on for hours if I let it but of course there was a time limit. He didn’t want me to do anything back to him, so I didn’t.
I really can’t do that kind of work, it got so boring. I prefer to be more active. I had to decline his requests to hire me in the end. I really couldn’t understand how he could get so much from basically doing the same thing for hours.

My experience is all fairly long ago.  I'm not sure how relevant my experience is in the age of Onlyfans, Insta, Grindr, & videochat.  Ive dealt with weight issues throughout adult life.  While others cycle through gains and losses of 30, even 50 lbs, I've cycled through hundreds.
I was fairly active in the urban bear scene 90s, early 00s. I frequented bear bars and events as the gay community was fairly direct in relegating me to the bear & chub scene.  I recall being insulted when I accompanied a very buff friend into Powerhouse in SF.
Chubby-chasers are, imo, much closer to urban myth than we'd like to acknowledge.  I rarely met a chaser who didn't have some fetish interests: feeding, feeling smothered as a bottom, playing with man-tits. I remember one guy who only wanted to tickle the midriff bulge hanging over my belt.  Guys for whom my size wasn't a factor at all were rare. Note that I distinguish between a daddy with 25-30 extra pounds and a genuinely fat guy; muscle cubs with a beer-gut Daddy were not at all uncommon.
Strong memories: a few different instances of guys who were politely uninterested at 365lbs, but who seemed to not recognize me and pursued me at 230, or 210.  One guy stopped visiting me when I lost weight.. that was surprising.
In hiring, I felt it best to share my size when screening rentguys.  I was only directly rejected a few times, and rarely felt insulted.  I might have written about one here on the board years ago when a couple offering 4-hand massage rejected me in an offensive manner.  Much more common was the pocket veto approach "oh, that's not an issue for me" but failure to respond in follow up, or appointment setting.
While I'm sure I was screened out often, I never had an issue with guys who agreed to an appointment.  No one arrived and said never mind. No one refused acts based on size.  The topic arose once or twice in lengthy or repeat visits - more as health advice, but not in a manner that felt like rejection.
I was active in hiring in 90s & 00s.  Much less active in 2010s.  My most recent hire was a very well-known guy in Feb 2020 while traveling; 36 hours later, I was dealing with very bad flu symptoms. Nothing since.
So, with that lengthy post for context, my approach was to tell the rentguy in advance, perhaps as a defense against in-person hurtful rejection.   But no real issues once met.

I'm a bit of a weather nerd... and as of several days ago, one of the potential tracks was that the storm would hit my area - that's no longer likely.   Still, I've been watching... and also reacting to all of the dramatic reactions.   Legit weather outlets love to hype these events, but at least they're reporting accurately
Social media is actually funny in its reaction.  Posting that a hurricane will hit CA.
The water off CA is too cold to support a hurricane.   And, it will come ashore at the north end of the Baja peninsula which will also weaken it.  It MIGHT still be a tropical storm (winds > 39mph) when it hits CA.  So, strictly responding to terminology... the hysteria online of CA getting hit by a hurricane is comical.
Also, it's been warm and humid in CA for a couple of weeks... so little storms are popping up everywhere.  Every one in last few days "the hurricane is here!" Even if days away.
That's just my reaction to the hype.  It's still a serious rain event.  Its the first tropical storm warning ever.. they didn't have warnings when it last happened 80 yeaes ago.  And SoCal is not built for 2-5 inches of rain in a storm.  There's potential for catastrophic flooding
One good thing... hurricane picked up speed today.  The faster it moves through, the less rain it will drop.  Worst floods are when storms stall, dumping hour after hour of rain on one area.  Hope it continues to move faster.
    Stay safe, SoCal

Mead is having a good year, water level is rising.  Rockies' snowpack, melt, is strong.  They released more water from Powell than anticipated.   And CA agreed in May to draw less water.
Probably short term.. but every drop saved, helps

Probably not much effect.  Lake Mead water comes from the east, Colorado River basin, Lake Powell, Rockies, etc.  This storm is forecast to move through western NV, which is downstream of Mead.

    Perhaps things have changed
If I was traveling, had a hotel room, I preferred the escort visit me. I felt more confident about security, environmental cleanliness, comfort, etc. 2023, I'd also feel more secure that there weren't hidden cameras recording our session.
If it was in my home region of San Francisco, I preferred to visit the rentguy.  In hindsight, I was with a lot of visitors, so they likely had a place.  Plus, I reside in suburbia.. most guys weren't interested in the extra 40-60 minutes each way, or wanted extra $$.  While the travel time charge wasn't unreasonable itself, it put the total encounter over my "willing to pay for initial meet" threshold; i.e, take a chance on first meet at $200 or $300?... OK,  at $450 or more with travel?... nope.  Plus, I never wanted a first timer in my home. (I made 3 exceptions to that rule, and one turned out badly).
I guess I assumed visitors had a place.  But I always clarified before booking.

Most problems with hookups or paid meetings are caused by misunderstandings through poor communication. It’s rarely intentional although it might feel like that it’s almost always because something has been assumed or something has been missed by accident.
I get clients assuming all sorts of things even though I think it’s clear on my profile and website. I get a few who contact me thinking I’m female…imagine the surprise they’d get if I didn’t correct them and they turned up at my studio for a massage? Although I reckon I could turn them once they get on the table 🙂

Never say never, but I doubt I'll be hiring again.  For a variety of reasons.
There's an old joke that men make decisions using two different organs, but only have enough blood to use one at a time.  I've reached the age that the organ in my skull wins out in every decision. I've become very skeptical, even cynical, of the rentguy scene. Why would any guy hire out in an age when onlyfans and online  performance is so much easier, safer, and probably more lucrative?   And the guys I see advertised all seem likely to be scammers... reading this board certainly reinforces that. I find myself reviewing ads, but almost always finding reasons to eliminate men from consideration.  I like pictures but then, oops.. that one make him unappealing to me. I dislike certain listed behaviors. I infer dishonesty in the ad.   Etc etc. At some point when, as a potential client, someone finds himself identifying barrier after barrier, it's time to acknowledge that the barriers are his own. The excuses simply mean I'm not in the right frame of mind to hire.
Strikes me as odd... I think most guys chicken out, use excuses, when they're inexperienced at hiring.  I am not, and was fairly casual about hiring in the 90s - 00s, a few in the 10s..  But environments, values & attitudes change; I'm skeptical that I'm still in the market for rentguys.
