Years ago I was evacuated and didn’t know it. I was attending a conference in Seattle at the time and unaware of news. When the shuttle picked me up at the airport and I told him where I was headed he said “I hope it’s still there!” It was and the only damage was a layer of dust/ash because I’d left windows open.
 
A few years later I was evacuated three days after buying a house. It was only one night but there were fire crews bunking at the same hotel I stayed in. I contributed to fire relief in ways that will remain private.
 
My experiences were trivial compared to what we’re seeing today. My heart goes out to all involved!
 
And for anyone planning home improvement projects, wait. Your cost of building materials just skyrocketed because of material needed in SoCal, as it did after each major hurricane.

It’s fascinating how a simple PSA can turn into something so much more interesting.

As I have written before, I think Avalon is not someone whom we can reason with. He has chosen his situation, and he would rather talk about it than actually do anything to change it. It may make us feel good to give him sensible advice, but there is very little of it that he will take. When he does, as with the walker, it feeds us encouragement to keep engaging with him, which is all he really wants. If we stop engaging with him, he will probably make one small move, post about it, and people will engage again to encourage him to do more, but he is really playing us.

It could always be worse.
 

There are 10 timer boxes around the property that light the landscaping, the pool, and the building, and every year I screw it up trying to reset them to Daylight Savings Time. As of tonight, I still can't get two of them right. OK...that might not be as interesting as an Avalon thread, but it's a pain in my side.

Just watched the video from Live Aid. OMG! It really points up the difference between one of the talents of the ages and a very minor impersonation. Play the real concert and the Hollywood version side by side to see (and hear) the difference. The hype for Malek is nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Garland, Streisand and Gaga are all major talents and their "Star is Born", even when compared to each other, has true talent to carry each version.
