    I'm guessing sherry.

It tasted boozier than sherry - maybe brandy. But what do I know? I don't drink.

I am impressed that you resisted so strongly and commend you for that.

I am not impressed that you let him stay 4 hours in your room though, do you have no sense of time passing?
After the end of the first hour I would have told him: “you can stay if you want but I only agreed to pay you one hour, and I won’t be able to give you more.”
That should have sent him on his way.

I'd say legally you owe him nothing.

You got scammed, threatened, and blackmailed.

    It happens.

Thankfully you use a burner phone (newbies take note!).
After this event I'd ditch it and get a new phone.

Morally, I would have taken SOME responsibility for having
run 3 hours over. I'm sure you realize it's hard for us to
believe that you truly had no idea you had run significantly
    run over on the time.

Before an escort arrives I make sure a clock is clearly visible in
in the room. At 5 minutes past our agreed end time, I stop and
make it clear whether or not I wish to extend for additional
time. I make sure we look each other in the eye and that we have
a clear understanding of the agreement. Any hedging or vague
reassurances from the escort and I end the session immediately
    and call it a night.

You were scammed....but you let yourself be scammed.

The violent behavior is inexcusable, period

That said, there is shared responsibility to
    - keep track of time
    - discuss how will be handled if you go over time
    - you did agree to an hourly rate

I doubt you have a legal issue here, even with the threats to call your wife and aggressive (though not violent) behavior.
Going to the police will surely put this "on the record" and possible in the public eye, which I assume you don't want?

I liken this experience getting mugged (which thankfully I never have but my apartment has been robbed) .... you feel completely violated and like someone kicked you in the gut.

I'd chalk this up to a naive mistake (on your part) and feel fortunate the guy did not get violent or call your wife.

We're tinkering at times with the underbelly here guys, do your homework and even then "shit can happen"

My sister-in-law's mother was English and made outstanding trifle. She always served it at Christmas. She made the sponge cake, the custard, the whipped cream and put it all together and let it refrigerate for quite a long time. It had some sort booze in it but I don't remember what.

Cornish pasties are big in Colorado because of all the Cornish miners who came there during the gold rush. I think they're tasty.

That's my understanding, as well. Since this is "British" foods (i.e., from the island) and not "English" foods, it could have easily been included. I mean, they have haggis on their list for some reason.

Cullen skink, scotch eggs and Yorkshire puddings are my favourites on that list. It might not be nutritionally ideal, but I would happily eat only Yorkshire puds smothered in gravy for the rest of my life. Omnomnom.

While genetics may not be the only factor in how sexual orientation develops or is determined, there is strong evidence for a genetic component.

That is incorrect. Twin studies show exactly the opposite. Among identical twins separated at birth, there is a high concordance rate for sexual orientation.

Vulgarii, can you link to "Dr." Patricia Newton's credentials and published research? I can find nothing but youtube appearances. She seems to be a crusader for "reparative therapy," a wholly debunked and dangerous weapon of religious zealots.

I’m sorry you had to learn the hard way.
Be thankful....it could have been MUCH worse.....

It also works both ways. I don’t ever serve an escort
something that I haven’t handed to them to open
and break the seal first. I keep several varieties of liquor
around in “airplane bottles” for just such an occasion.
If I’m pouring or mixing their drink....I never, ever, take
it out of their sight while I’m preparing it. That way, if
they get home later and start “feeling a little funny”...
they know it’s the Tequila and the heat....not something
that was in their drink. The paraniod mind is a powerful thing.

Why do you think it's misusing the word, though? Using "race" and "racism" to include ethnicity actually came before they were ever used in a skin-color-only sense; they are still widely used that way in the real world today; and Wikipedia, as well as pretty much any other online reference you can point to, acknowledge all of this.

I understand the desire to be specific. I don't understand how you think that prejudice based on skin color is "serious" while prejudice based on ethnicity is "just bigotry."

Err, no, that's not always what "race" means. Sometimes, especially among white people in the US, it's used primarily about skin color. But it can encompass ethnic background just as easily as skin color.

Making overgeneralized comments about Romanians definitely qualifies as racist. (NB Whether or not the comments about Romanians in this thread were overgeneralized is a different question, one that I have no desire to touch.)
