The full version of this story is quite a saga, but here's the TL;DR version.
I was planning a long evening with a provider I had seen a handful of times. We were going to see a musical--he's a really fine singer and I knew he'd like that--and then enjoy a few hours together. I had the tickets, and he was taking care of making the rest of the evening an event. When he asked for a $500 deposit to help with that, I overcame my qualms and sent it to him.
It will surprise absolutely no one in this forum to learn that on the very day we were supposed to get together, he texted me to say that he was stuck in a faraway city (inset tale of woe here) and wouldn't be making it. I tried to be understanding, but I was also firm in saying that I felt scammed because I had paid for an experience I wasn't going to have. He assured me that he would return the money, though not right away because his finances were a mess (insert further tale of woe here). Repeated enquiries have produced ever-receding deadlines for repayment, but of course no actual money.
No deposits.

Take a permanent pause from hiring men who you are not sure will fill your needs.  Perhaps cut back on the ones that you know will satisfy you rather than stop.  Abstinence does not make the hard grow fonder, it makes it indiscriminate.

 The first order of business will be Saturday dinner reservations at a local contemporary restaurant, followed by RSVP’s for the Sunday pool gathering at my temporary residence, hosted by sam.fitzpatrick and nate_sf.  You will be asked to prepay the dinner fee prior to the event via either PayPal or Venmo (instructions will be sent later).
 If you will be bringing a “guest”, please tell me who. That information will also be kept confidential, unless you say otherwise. Attendance by escorts (by themselves or as someone's guest) is greatly encouraged.

If you will be coming from out-of-town and need accommodations, you should arrange for those ASAP, if you have not already. There have been several suggestions put forth in previous threads concerning possible accommodations.

Again, the dinner will be early Saturday evening, April 11, and the pool gathering will be in the afternoon of Sunday, April 12.

I have stopped and rendered aid for all sorts of issues.  I intervened in a domestic violence/kidnapping.  I’ve pulled over to pull a father away from trying to fight a fully-involved fire in his family’s minivan by beating at it with his jacket (exploding shock absorbers could have killed him and he was breathing really toxic smoke).  I performed the Heimlich Maneuver on a patron at a restaurant.

Last night, coming home from the gym I pulled into my garage.  Unbeknownst to me, the garage door did not go all the way down and as I opened the door to my home my dogs came into the garage.  I turned on the light to see the door opened just enough for the dogs to get out.  Surprisingly. when I called them the two younger dogs came right back in the house, but the 12 year old kept walking.  After the first two were secured, I went out after the old dog.  It was very dark night in Palm Springs and I live on a fairly busy street.  Initially, I could not see the dog.  In my haste, I left my phone inside the house. Then I caught a glimpse of motion and she was about one house away.  I started after her and she continued to walk along the edge of the busy road.  I grew more and more panicked and started to speed up to catch her.  My acceleration coincided with there being a speed bump in thje road which I did not see.  I tripped and face planted into the road.  I did not lose consciousness but I was bleedimg from my head and my left arm and left leg were brusied.  I attempted to get up without success.  
The first car that passed by stopped and the pregnant women, a nurse, grabbed the dog.  She brought the dog to me but could not help me up as she was probably 9 months into her pregnancy.  I would say ten to fifteen cars went around her car, shining their headlights on me sprawled on the pavement.  Most did not even slow down.  After about 5 minutes, which felt like hours, and several attempts to fight through the pain to stand, a car stooped and with that driver's assistance and a slight nudge from the nurse, I was able to stand.  Eventually I was able to get the dog in the garage.
Today 'I am very sore.  Large bruise on the left arm.  But considering, not too bad/.
My question is, how many of you would have stopped and helped and how many would have just passed on by.  I know some will say that it depends on where you were going, but I think that arguement is specious.    So stop or go?

Yep, Dungeons and Dragons. I meet a group every other Saturday where we bring snacks and goodies, play for 5-6 hours straight on our current campaign, and order pizza for dinner. Our current campaign has been going on for more than two years, but it's the community and camaraderie that keep it enjoyable, much more than the story (though it's a fun story too).
