I think this is a really good adaptation of the play, which all by itself is a horror story about a toxic relationship. Kathryn Hunter is indeed used very effectively as the witches, and the related bird imagery ties in throughout. The performances overall are subtle, and I liked the B&W and narrow aspect ratio- it keeps the scenes feeling intimate and taut even on a barren plain. It has a strong theatricality to it visually which I grew to like more as it went on. Probably not for everyone, but I’m really glad I caught it.

How To Succeed… and Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum do not work without misogyny, each a story from times when it was common. Both fantastic pieces of musical theatre. Using standards applied to this Music Man revival, they would never be performed again.
