Quite frankly, I was frigging terrified and the handcuffs looked like the real deal. If he was LEO, I didn't want to challenge him and make things worse. And if he wasn't LEO, I didn't want to antagonize him and risk being physically harmed. My brain shut down and my first instinct was to save myself from whatever. Chalk it up to me being a very stupid old man . I really never thought someone would do something like this.

I haven’t been on for a while, and haven’t really been actively hiring since 2017. I’ve been using Grindr and other apps/sites for this type of activity.
 
Today I set up an appointment with someone on skipthegames.com. After several messages and exchange of photos we met this afternoon. He asked that I produce payment before anything happened, and I did. As soon as I handed him the money, I heard “Sir, please turn against the wall and place your hands behind you back.” He pulled handcuffs, and I kind of chuckled and asked for some confirmation that he was LEO, and was assured that I would know he was once we were in the police car. I completely lost it and let him know that something like this would absolutely ruin me.
 
After desperately pleading with him, he agreed to turn a blind eye in exchange for additional compensation. He wanted $1,500 to make it disappear. I was able to come up with less on the spot, and had his word that this would be the end of it. He said that we both had a secret about each other that would protect us both. His rationale was that he would tell his colleagues that I got cold feet and backed out of the arrangement.
 
Not sure he was really LEO, but wasn’t really brave enough to take the chance. Dirty cop or shyster hustler? He told me that they’ve been scooping sites like skipthegames, Grindr, etc., looking for “generous men” and that they were cracking down.
 
After today, this has pretty much thrown water on my hiring at all. A painful, frightening and expense lesson to learn.

My one theatre memory was seeing Shelley Winters in The Effect of Gamma Rays back in the late 70's when I was a teen. My first visit to NY, and I was determined to meet her. I went backstage after the performance and made up some story about being mugged on my way to see the play. Not sure whether they believed it, but the stage manager took me up to her dressing room to meet her. Should was incredibly sweet, signed my program, and issued a motherly warning on being careful on the streets of the city.

Not sure if it will make its way to PBS anytime soon, but just finished watching a very sweet ITV show about the family of conservationist, Gerald Durrell. Good acting, wonderful cast, and a treat to see Leslie Caron in a role. Based on his autobiographical books that comprised the Corfu Trilogy. Well worth a watch if you have a chance.

Just saw this yesterday and thought it was well crafted, directed and acted (the children were amazingly good). Lots of jumps. A nice, tense little horror flick that’s not slasher vs teen or torture porn.

I appreciate the escort's point of view. But, as a client, if my regulars raise their rates to 500 an hour, I would rather find an NYU or Columbia boytoy on seeking arrangements who would be happy with 3K monthly for frequent meetings.

If this was a proposal for a coordinated rate increase independent of SESTA/FOSTA, my reaction would be, great! More power to you! As entrepreneurs, you should do what it takes to get the most that the market will pay. But attempting to use SESTA/FOSTA as justification comes across as opportunistic in way that is deceitful and exploitative. @stevenkesslar posted that the move to increase rates seems like an act of resistance. I agree. The problem is, the resistance is directed at paying clients instead of the new legislation (it's easier to protest to your clients than to legislators). @FTM Zachary Prince goes as far as saying that maybe he'll "tack on a $100 FOSTA/SESTA surcharge just to make a point." My question is, to whom are you making the point?

None of your tips mention quality of service to the client, much less providing the agreed upon service or not having a “bad day,” yet still asking for the full fee. How about a money-back guarantee?

Not many people get a 25% to 30% raise.
 
I would think since escort advertising is in jeopardy, there will be fewer clients reading the fewer ads that will be able to get to the market place. To increase escorts rates at this time, as you propose, could cause more harm than good. Also, escorts with "regulars" might lose those regulars if the escort suddenly decides to charge an extra hundred dollars, as you advise.
 

 
Clients and escorts will have to wait and see what happens after the shock settles in.
 
Fewer ads equal fewer readers, equals fewer clients. Raising the escort fee twenty-five or thirty percent could be a downfall for many escorts.
 
But, as you wrote, you "know first hand these methods work."

Thanks for clarifying that you do not recommend that escorts charge 25% increases for existing clients.
 
 

 
Yes, there will be fewer readers. That is simple logic and arithmetic. Already, there are fewer readers. Several escort sites have closed down. That already means fewer readers. Furthermore, many clients who formerly met escorts from those now closed sites do not know how to find where escorts are currently advertising.
 
You mentioned there will be more traffic on rentmen - Have you not noticed that the ads on rentmen have been markedly edited by rentmen to a point where there are no prices allowed and certain marketing language in an ad is restricted. There is also discussion about rentmen being blocked soon within the U.S. If that occurs, where will escorts go to find clients?
 
If rentmen is blocked, not all clients will bother to get a VPN to access rentmen, a site that has already been stripped of a lot of useful information about escorts.
 
I hope you are correct in your assertions. It would be nice if your predictions comes true. I have my doubts.

You are certainly free to charge what you feel is equitable. Of course a 33% raise in rates would likely drive some to hire less often and lead others to not hire at all. Those who are considering trying to contact an escort for the first time may find the rates a bit too much for a experimental encounter. Tips, likely will decrease in frequency and amount.
 
As for me, a tightening of the financial situations has led me to downsize my encounter number, raising the rate will likely reduce that number further.
So good luck with your plans. I am sure there are many that will join you and quite a few that will not. We will call those escorts who do not, the busy ones.

I think an important thing to look into is whether the US owner (whether a company or an individual) of a site housed on a foreign server would still be liable under US law.

I would say yes I have and yes they do. Anytime a provider gives you more of their time than agreed (their most valuable asset) with no additional expectation, then they have provided a gift or token of genuine appreciation . This has happened without my requesting or expecting it.
 
I also see 12is12’s point that it has seemed that there is a sense that we should expect more of ourselves as clients than of providers (not saying this is universally true, but there is definitely an undertone of that which I’ve picked up on as well). Part of that is healthy - to always seek to do right regardless of what the other party does, but it shouldn’t mean you become someone’s doormat (not saying that’s a largely held belief that clients should be abused, just speaking to 12is12’s observation).
 
The idea that this is only a bottom line business to the provider/escort may be true for some (and if you’re in business, the bottom line is what you live and die on), but if you believe that is the ONLY thing that matters to the provider, then I think you really do place the provider in a different category than providers from other service-related businesses. Perhaps that’s true. I just don’t think it is. I know many service-based businesses where the providers remember their clients in special and thoughtful ways which cost the provider to extend courtesies or gifts with the aim of solidifying the relationship, creating loyalty, or just because their is a genuine connection. I own a service based business and we do special gifts, events, and outings for our best clients - individually and collectively because they’ve treated us so well and we want to show appreciation.
 
I personally have received some very nice gestures from providers in the form of time, but also other things in our meetings (and after) where the provider wanted to make me feel good and appreciated. It was very nice and I sincerely appreciated those gestures. I have also reciprocated in some instances if it was natural to do so.

I had SiriusXM for a while, and one of the channels ran all of his radio shows. Hilarious and held up quite well over the years.
