  1. I enjoy PS but never been there in the summer. I'm surprised it's marketed as a year round destination. Apparently in summer the golfers will tee off at the butt crack of dawn and get in at least 9 holes.

Many golf courses have giant fans aimed in the vicinity of the greens, in order to cool the grass and keep it from browning. They reseed annually, shifting between winter grasses and summer grasses.

  2. It looks like you are misreading the chart you linked. When I clicked it, I saw two tables. In the top, the month of July is selected. The bottom table shows data for the month selected. That data does not tell you the total number of days Palm Springs reached 120 or more. It shows you the record high for each date in question, and if you count the record highs in July you get your 16 days of 120 degrees. That does not mean, however, that those days where the record high was at least 120 degrees didn't also reach 120 degrees or more during a different year on the same month and day and, of course, that data is only showing July. If you click June, you will see six days where the record high was at least 120. August has 9 such days. I would give you the count for September but the website seems to have a glitch preventing that data from loading, though it's clear from the top chart that there were some days in September where the temperature reached at least 120 degrees. So now were up to at least 31 days of the year where the temperature in Palm Springs has reached at least 120 degrees and, to repeat, that doesn't mean that those same days of the year haven't been that hot during multiple years.

While it's true that the average high is not close to 120 degrees, if you look at a different site such as weatherunderground where you can see the recorded high for each day going back at least a year, you will see that it's pretty common in Palm Springs to have stretches in the summer where the high temperature is 120 degrees, plus or minus a few degrees. It isn't like it's a rare occurrence that it gets that hot there. Yes, maybe I was unlucky during my one summer trip there but I know what I experienced first hand: Every day I was there had a high temperature close to 120 degrees, and some days exceeded that temperature. Before that trip, I think the hottest temperature I had ever experienced was between 105 and 110 degrees so I didn't think that the heat in Palm Springs would bother me so much, but that extra 10 to 15 degrees made a huge difference. I basically hated being outside, and even the nighttime lows weren't low enough to provide any respite. It was just freaking HOT 24/7.

It's 3:30 am as I post this and I see the current temperature in Palm Springs is 92 degrees. When the nighttime lows are still over 90 degrees you know it's hot.

    Could be.

  3. Possibly I should have given it longer. But she said the same types of things as most of the others. I'm not saying what she said isn't true. The things she said are what they are all trained to say and believe. But while I can acknowledge that what they say may be a truth, it's not necessarily the way I believe. And while I understand that their way would probably be healthier for me, I don't seem to be able to make myself come over to their way of thinking.

Yes, perhaps you should have given it more time.

Finding a compatible therapist is not easy. (See JayCeeKy.) But how many years — or decades — did it take for you to get into this psychological mess? To get to a point where you are convinced that your belief might be wrong, as you say, but dammit it’s your belief and how dare that professional presume that the truth would serve you better? (Do you do your own plumbing, car repair and home tech servicing?) It won’t take as many years — or decades — to get out of your mess, but it will certainly take considerable time.

Especially when you dig in your heels and resist.

  4. I mean, being gay or straight is not about what we do. But rather what we enjoy, who we are attracted to, and how we feel. I have had my share of sex with women but it doesnt mean Im straight.

    Sexual identity is not binary.

  5. I'm slowly training a 26 year old straight guy ... met him on Seeking Arrangement

    First he got rimmed

Then he got a blow job

    Then we kissed, closed-mouth

Then we snogged like he meant it

Or is he not so straight? He's an actor ...

    Bingo: He’s not so straight.

  6. In fact, that is exactly the analogy that I think of when I open my front door to go out. My dog is eager to go out until I open the door, and then he cringes. Yesterday it was too hot for his feet, so I had to carry him to a grassy spot in the shade to do his business, then carry him home again.

Dog booties are helpful. Store them in your freezer.

  7. I only visited once during the height of summer. I found the weather truly horrible. Most days were around 120 degrees and it was still ridiculously hot outside well after dark.

Well, not exactly. In the last 80 years, the temperature in Palm Springs has reached 120F a total of 16 times. Today might boost that to 17 times.

The average summer high is a dozen degrees cooler — which is hotter than hell!

    :cool::cool::cool:

  8. Point is you can’t see a virus and both HPV and HIV are viruses. And a virus is transmittable even in the absence of lesions, chancres, sites, bumps or other visible evidence.

It’s sadly misinformed to think there is no risk if you cannot “see” evidence.

lol. Changing your story is funny.

  9. My choice of the word "homosexual" is just a personal one for me alone. When I was young and trying to figure what I was that was the first word I came across and it fit me.

For the entire community - I'm not sure what all that includes - what about "Non Straight" or "Non Het"? NS, NH, but the latter might be confused with the abbreviation for New Hampshire.

Non-straight? Non-het? Jeez. It would be helpful not to use “straight” or “het” as the human norm, from which you deviate, which is what your ridiculous suggestion does. Your self-loathing is both revealing and sad.

  10. I think this is important. A hobbyist magazine I read recently ran a story about a school that is "woman and trans" friendly and got some blowback in the letter column lecturing about how the mag's demographic didn't want to hear about it. The managing editor made a very good and brave response. I'm not trans, but wrote my once-a-decade letter to express solidarity.

If it’s a hobbyist magazine, the mag’s demographic is by definition queer.
