I got to see it finally, as it was shown on a channel here prior to the Duke’s Funeral,which was at midnight local time on saturday night. So I recorded it, and watched it yesterday. As a fan of the series I thought it was pretty awesome, Barrow got to experience what gay life was like at the time, secret clubs that got raided.... and a future of romance with a nice man. My father was 35 when I was born and my Mother was 40. They had very old fashioned views about life, and were not at all modern, so it was a hell of an upbringing. I feel much sadness for her Majesty, not only does she have the burden of ruling Britannia, but she has a dysfunctional family to restore and has to do it on her own without her life partner

I think the issue is quality of life. If i choose to live to 80, but the last 10 years I am immobile and dependant on others doing all my needs, like toileting and cleaning, feeding me its better to go at 70. However if I am 100, and still able to get around, enjoy life, (admittedly in a slower way), eat most of what i like and well then 100 is good. Its like planning for your retirement, how much money do you need for that unknown length of time you are going to be alive

When I was a child in Victoria Australia, the open road limit was unlimited, BUT you did have to drive at a speed that was safe. If you were stopped by the police you had to prove that you were driving at a safe speed to the conditions. I do remember when they dropped the limit to 100 km on the open rd, 60 km in the burbs. Many suburban streets are now 50 km, and school zones are 40 km. There are some freeways that are 110 km and even a few country roads that are not freeways that have a 110 km limit. Where I live in Western Sydney my local freeway heading to the city is 110k at my end, then goes down to 100 k then 90k then even 80k. To complicate matters there are variable speed signs all the way, which can be lowered electronically by the Traffic Management Control, and they often do when the traffic is heavy, weather is bad, or if there are road workers or emergency workers on the roadway. You have to be very aware. Some of our major highways like the Pacific Highway between Sydney and Brisbane, the speed changes constantly, so 100 to 110 then back to 100 then down to 80 back to 110. It’s annoying, but cruise control is your saviour !!!!

I have a roll top desk that was my Dads, and a grandmother clock that was my grandparents. My father tells the story of when the box arrived in the house, my grandparents lived in Suva Fiji, so it arrived in the house after a sea journey from Sydney Australia, my uncle and aunt were hoping the box contained a wind up gramophone, being around 1925. The clock hung in my parents house all my life, regardless of where we lived, so I was happy to have it, and will pass it onto my nieces or nephews when i pass

How crazy. People who criticise my spelling or grammar on social media drive me to distraction. I always respond with did you understand - therefore i was successful at communicating with you .... the people who made this decision sound very anal to me

I have wonderful memories of Kiri Te Kanawa singing in indoor concerts in both Wellington and Auckland, and one in the Hunter Valley outdoors north of Sydney, but outdoor concerts tend to attract people who are not classical fans, it become more about sharing some wine and chatting than listening to the Prima Donna
