Four kids in our family and raised in a white Anglo Saxon Protestant upper middle class setting in the 1950’s. Stay at home mother and we were all sent to private schools, where most of our classmates were of at least similar background or much richer. Affection was mostly shown by our mother, dad not so much overtly but we knew he loved us. He never cheated on our mother and as a result we had a sense of security. My parents only drank very moderately, didn’t smoke and took us to church during the winter months but we spent summers at our cottage, with a different group of friends. We all turned out pretty well, two straight and two gay. I’m the single one and happy that way. I value affection very highly and have always tried to show it to all I have been close to. Even to providers. I like the BFE the most.
 

They really should have recognized LM in some way at this year's Tonys for reviving this musical which was on life-support a year ago. She deserved some special award - along with Tovah. 

This afternoon I saw Little Shop of Horrors. It’s a show I really like. I saw the first production in the East Village in 1982 with the great Ellen Greene playing Audrey. After that I saw it in 2003 with Hunter Foster. Unfortunately I missed the Encores production with Jake Gyllenhaal in 2015 but saw Jonathan Groff in 2019. Today was Jeremy Jordan playing Seymour. Interesting all these handsome guys playing a nebbish. It’s a small theater and I was in second row orchestra center with no one in front of me. I was about 8 feet from the edge of the stage. At the end when the plant Audrey leaps forward into the audience I almost got eaten.

It may be apocryphal, but I have read in more than one source (though I can’t recall specifically those sources) that whenever Mahler conducted Tristan und Isolde at the Metropolitan Opera in the early 20th century, he became visibly sexually excited as he conducted the opera!

I highly recommend the documentary “The Opera House” which tells the story of the building of Lincoln Center, with particular focus on the Met. It features an interview with Lyontyne Price and wow, she’s amazing. This documentary is currently available on Apple TV for rental. Worth seeking out. 

I saw him in recital in Barcelona at the end of May. The local audience adored him and greeted him with huge ovations each time he appeared on stage. 
After the "main" part of the recital, the pianist left the stage. Then JDF returned with his guitar -- and the biggest ovation yet. Apparently he ends his programs in Spain (maybe elsewhere?) with Spanish songs in which he accompanies himself and gives short introductions to each piece. These were just stunning!

RIP
I ran into him socially once (knew nothing about him at the time) where he told me about his comic books and about his work in the hobby to finance that. He had some strong (and important) opinions on the political aspects, protection for providers etc - clearly someone with a strong and empathetic social conscience.
Just a few months ago I saw him on the subway at Grand Central. Hard to miss him given his physique but also his smile, towering above the commuter crowds. He was wearing a t-shirt saying “legalize sex work”. I was in two minds as to whether to waive and say hi as I thought he wouldn’t remember me and I was exhausted and feeling unsociable.  He spotted me, however, and walked over and gave me a hug on a crowded train - asked how I was and said we should grab lunch, that he was traveling and he would be in touch when back in town. 
I remember feeling the warmth of his personality both times I met him. Condolences to everyone in his life.
