Raleigh like so many cities its size and profile is a hot, hip city amongst the young and highly educated, who no longer flock to large cities.   Gays and straights just co-mingle and give the whole place a great vibe.  The food scene there is amazing. It is easy to meet gay guys in almost all the fun trendy bars.

Raleigh goes through boom and bust cycles on escorts, however.  A few years ago it was booming and now the selection is slim, for me at least.  I've have flown guys in occasionally when visiting Raleigh and they always seem to do great business (in addition to mine).

Micro economics: the price is determined by supply and demand. Lots of providers and few clients the prices go down: few providers and lots of clients the prices go up. High prices and opportunity to make good money attracts new providers into the market so the price pressures reduce.
I think the pandemic has disrupted the supply and demand equilibrium so that prices are unstable and unclear. It’s difficult to see a market rate. It will settle down again when things return to “normal” (whatever that looks like).

I work in public health and a lot of what you're saying here is technically true but very misleading. Vaccines do not necessarily prevent you from getting SARS-COV-2 into your body, but for most people (pre-Omicron) it prevented the progression to disease. Now, Omicron is evading the vaccines to some extent - though boosted people seem to fare better - but it's also limiting spread to some extent. 
But my main gripe is the focus on ALL causes death rate for 2021 is post-vaccine, and still within a time frame within the US where people were not commuting, not necessarily going out as much, flu was down. 
However, all cause mortality for 2020 pre-vaccine, height of the pandemic, was UP 15.9%. Without vaccines, the rate in 2021 would likely be significantly higher than it has been.

This should not come as a surprise given all that's going on with omicron, but the DC Forum Gathering planned for later this month has been canceled.
Over the past week I've been checking in with everyone who had initially expressed interest in attending. The vast majority have said they are not coming, or are likely not to come.
The timing of the weekend couldn't be worse, with it likely to coincide with the peak of the omicron surge. While it's turning out that the symptoms aren't too bad if you're vaccinated and boosted, it still seems like a bad idea. Add to that the possibility of flight and business disruptions, the mask requirement at MAL, etc. etc.
I'm really sorry about this guys (and gals). I'd been looking forward to this, as I know others had too. I have heard from a couple of guys who will be in town for the weekend nevertheless, and suggested a small dinner together if there are others. In that sense, this would take the weekend back to its roots, which started with a handful of guys getting together for brunch to put faces to screennames. If you're going to be in DC that weekend and would like to meet up, post something on this thread. I'm happy to help coordinate if there's a need, but I will not be traveling to DC myself.
