It was obviously a mistake for the Times not to have checked the reports of Dow's death on social media. I would have thought that the department that is responsible for running obituaries has procedures in place to verify actual deaths before publishing an obit. It is a different matter for the newspaper to report a death as a news item. That can be easily corrected and such corrections appear almost daily in any major newspaper that claims to be a reliable source of news. I can't even recall the last time an obituary was recalled. Yes. You get a certificate with your name, the dose and type of vaccine you got, the date, your e-mail and I think your mother's maiden name but I may be wrong about the last item. I know they wrote it down for their own data bank. This was in Montreal. Other jurisdictions may do it differently. I kept mine to go with the one from 1966. To show I'm fully vaxed. Lol.

Death and dying are facts of life. If people can't bring themselves to using the terms in relation to people or pets they are in some sort of denial. Have you noticed newspapers like the NYT don't use terms like passing or other euphemisms for death. They deal with it straight up.

I watched the entire presentation and the only thing I would fault is that the doctor did not refer to the tremendous response from the gay community seeking to get vaccinations. And how certain jurisdictions have set up clinics quickly and are doing thousands of vaccinations per week. This is different from Covid, which he talked about at the beginning in that it was not a novel virus and there was a vaccine available for smallpox held in stockpiles which he referred to in the States, Russia and China. It would be interesting to know what if anything those other countries are doing. I suspect nothing since China officially denies having gays and Russia is fairly isolated these days.
