let me add reasoning- a provider you click with will know EXACTLY what you like in a way no one here on the forum will. The provider will want to look after you and your experience as you are a good client he will want to keep. The second provider will want to do a good job as he has his friend's reputation on the line, and they want to be recommended again! Its a winning formula

yes - and here is some solid advice: find a provider you like and are happy with. Tell them what you have in mind for hiring two guys at once, and get him to recommend a friend to join you when you decide to do it.

to answer the OP's question - it is not common, but not unheard of. In my experience, it happens more with newer providers that are unsure if they can do the job. I always send a pic before a meeting, unprompted - but only either by the rentmen site, Snapchat or WhatsApp so the photo can be set to easily deleted (I have a profile picture of myself on WhatsApp anyway) never by text message. I just think it's a good idea so they are prepared and it also lets them know I am real and not a flake, and there is no "hello are you Jon? When I arrive/they arrive'.

I just feel 'warnings' masked as 'intel sharing' should be posted about actual danger, scams, and people who massively underperform or have serious hygine issues. Not providers that don't respond to your liking after they make it clear they won't be able to meet with you and you got your feelings hurt. You also know that now as soon as someone uses this forum to research him they will find negative things and it will prevent him getting work because you were offended. Don't reply with naivete or fiegned innocence - you know exactly what you are doing. Enjoy your gosspiing. You sound like the type of client that gives us a bad name.

He is saying the provider is only a 5/10 by NYC standards, with an odd-looking penis, and suggesting things must be bad in Canada. The exact type of dogpile comment you were looking for when you started this thread.
