  1. So is Ben Platt officially "out" or was he simply never "in" in the first place? I haven't seen anything on it, but he certainly reads gay. I first ventured tentatively to gay bars in my late 20s. I'd come in at 6 pm, see nobody there but the 80-year-old alcoholic in the corner, think to myself, "I guess I AM the only one" and go home. I didn't realize everybody was waiting for their wives and children to fall asleep so gay bars didn't get going until 11 pm even on a weeknight.
  2. Then that's an age range where really they're pretty much your peers, at least the top half of that range.
  3. You know, before the MS progressed too far I remember her expressing support for Dr. Kevorkian because she would want the option should it get too bad. But then a few years ago when she came to live with me and we were doing medical directive stuff, she wanted to be kept alive in pretty much every scenario listed. I think she's just adjusted to each new stage, better than I would have certainly. For me personally anything beyond losing the use of my legs would be where I would draw the line. I believe I could deal with being in a wheelchair if I had the use of my arms. I couldn't deal with needing to be fed/changed/etc.
  4. "always the daddy" at 37? Seriously? Are you only hanging out with college kids? I mean if you put "25 and under only" in your profile that's a recipe for feeling ancient. I always find that odd when people angrily put in their profiles that they will only consider ages 18 all the way up to one year younger than they (claim they) are. I'm wondering if all the 60 year olds you know are heavy smokers or something. I mean don't get me wrong 40something is not the same as 20 something, but the majority of 60 year olds are getting around fine, just not doing jump boxes at CrossFit.
  5. What people fail to realize is at some point extra weight is extra weight, be it muscle or fat. If your bodyweight is 40 lbs higher, that's more blood your heart has to pump, more work your internal organs have to do, extra burden on your joints, which can wear out sooner, etc. There are tradeoffs no matter how many precautions you take. You may still find them worth it. I mean, if you told me I could look and feel like a superhero but I'd simply drop dead ten years earlier than otherwise, feeling good up to that point, I might do it. But if you told me I was going to feel great for a period but wind up in a walker or chair sooner and then be on dialysis, I'd say no.
  6. Looking at my gym which is frequented by Wall Street types and seeing just how many more jacked 50ish guys there seem to be today versus 20 years ago, I'd say it's not just escorts using testosterone by any stretch. I presume these guys though are being more careful and are under a doctor's supervision. I'm debating giving that a shot myself for weight loss purposes.
  7. I have some spine issues which as they progress have meant that my erections are not what they were, though still just fine for oral. As I got a late start with sex, by the time I tried anal my topping was simply not that good. If it was one of those bottoms who can open their own hole it was okay, but I couldn't really work my way into anyone who was tight.
  8. I'm assuming there's touching just no anal or oral, much like the NYJacks party. So basically the same level of interaction as a massage with HE, which people pay for. Seems reasonable.
  9. I have a friend who tried anal each way once way back in the 90s when he was just starting out, without a condom(may have been high or drunk, not sure), was so freaked out about waiting for his HIV test(which turned out negative) that he decided he had already "used up his get out of jail free card" and has never done anal either way since. He sticks to oral and some playing with the ass but no penetration. He is still exclusively gay though. Some people have their hangups about particular activities. I very rarely do anal(like less than 10 times in my life total) and consequently I never really got that good at it, so I don't particularly miss it. Were I in an LTR I suppose I would make the effort to get better at it.
  10. I think it's fair to guess after reading the review that the client has some self-confidence/anxiety issues that make him one who requires some "special handling" - that seeps out in his writing. It also sounds like he likely has some difficulty speaking up about what he wants when in the moment; that means he's not likely to do all that well with an escort that isn't really really good at picking up nonverbal cues. While I found Derek engaging cheery and enthusiastic, I didn't get the feeling it was a custom-tailored performance, just that he's generally upbeat in demeanor and I'm not sure how good I'd expect him to be with someone who was uncomfortable/unsure/not able to fully articulate what he wants - I think he'd do "the usual" and hope for the best. I'd even go so far as to say as the reviewer might want to try a sex surrogate first. None of that excuses the needless cruelty of Derek's response.
  11. I saw him exactly once and he was fine. I wasn't quite feeling it, but I will say that I am 6'3" and was ~310 lbs at the time and he gave no indication that was an issue(I have some muscle and carry reasonably well, but no mistaking I was fat.). But I do get the feeling his partying is taking a toll. And this response was just atrocious.
  12. While anything can happen, everyone should be aware that cancer aside, modern medicine is pretty good at keeping even fairly unhealthy people from dying. When I hear people saying they don't save for retirement because they won't live that long I tell them about my brother-in-law's mother. 80+, diabetic, had her first heart attack at 55, still kicking. Most heart disease can be managed or avoided if you take cholesterol meds and get checkups, and that's the thing that usually takes people young.
  13. It really depends on what shape I'm in. My sister is disabled and lives in a nursing home. Her roommate is 99 and while she uses a wheelchair, that's only because of balance issues. She can still stand and go to the bathroom etc herself and has her marbles. I'd be happy to live that long as functional as she is. My sister, who is not yet 60, has a catheter, wears a diaper, can't walk, and now her arms are starting to go. And she is fully aware of it. I would not want to live like that. Though I suppose if it happens gradually you learn to put up with it.
  14. I tried to join Derek Atlas's but it wouldn't take my credit card for some reason. Haven't tried since.
  15. I used to watch ABC's Extreme Makeover Weight Loss edition. One of the women they had on was about 6 feet tall and a former competitive athlete. They got her down to something like 180 or 200 which, given her frame, really didn't look bad at all(and she was coming down from over 300). Then they told her to keep it off she was going to have to keep up the very intense workout schedule PLUS restrict herself to something like 1400 calories a day. 1400 calories a day for a 200 lb person? That's insane.
  16. Regarding his age, I think he got into the business older than many others did. They don't all get into porn on their 18th birthday and his size was something people that age simply can't attain. I find that now that cigarette smoking is much rarer, people are looking younger considerably longer than in the past. That plus more men are using some sort of moisturizer.
  17. Either way, it's an "external" mechanism that is not about your sheer force of will. So saying "he just should have controlled himself more" is unrealistic and unfair.
  18. Are you sure it's just not that your price is higher than the market will bear? For a billion dollars I'd do it. For $250, no. The actual cutoff is somewhere between those numbers.
  19. I'm sure some do. But the money is so much better than porn with women that I imagine a lot of guys just suck it up. I mean, once you've crossed the line of taking money for it, a job is a job is a job right? What you'd have to pay me to have sex with a woman is higher than what you would have to pay me to have sex with a man, but I could do it. And plenty of men on this forum have been married to women and were able to have sex with them but identify as gay. And I could imagine finding it easier to compartmentalize if what you do for money is the gender you don't want to do . As Mark Twain said, "work" is something you don't want to do.
  20. Well in your case what he was "going out for" is the thing that society approves of - I think it's more of a threat than the other way around. Then there's also the issue that some of these guys orientationwise truly are straight and just doing it for the money.
  21. I think a lot of them are married to women who are or were in the biz in some form themselves. And I suspect the money is what makes them okay with it. Also the fact that men are less of a threat to them than women. They have something to offer their man that those guys can't. Let's be honest, a lot of these guys can't make anywhere near the money they do from porn and escorting doing anything else, and the wives know it.
  22. When you have bariatric surgery, they basically reduce the size of your stomach to like 8 oz or less. You eat any more than that at one time, it's gonna be forced back up. That's why people lose weight so rapidly - they physically CAN'T eat normal amounts of food, much less large amounts.
  23. I honestly think I'd do a lot better if I just took in a boarder. If there were someone there to see me eat the entire pizza I would probably be too embarrassed to do it...
  24. But the eating adjustments from bariatric surgery are forced. You vomit from eating too much. That kind of makes "making the adjustments" a lot easier than simply relying on willpower. I lost 45 lbs in 8 weeks earlier this year, took my foot off the gas, and put half of it back on. Doing another 8-week run now and hoping to stick to it, but it's very hard to be "always on" on something. At my heaviest I technically barely made the cutoff for surgery, but still feel like I can manage it without it. Partly because the BMI is skewed against taller people and I would look gaunt if I had a BMI of 25. People were shocked when I tole them I qualified for surgery.
  25. Snow doesn't really bother me now that I don't commute and can afford to pay someone else to shovel.
