In my experience, terse, one word replies translate into an equal lack of personality during the appointment. This is a customer service industry. If you can’t be arsed, as a provider, to be personable with prospective clients, go be an accountant.

I’ve seen him several times over the last year or so. Truly a master at different styles - it seemed like every time I saw him, he did something completely new/different from any massage I’ve had before or since. Also very kind-hearted and responsive anytime I reached out. Wishing nothing but the best to him in his new career path though it’ll be hard to find someone nearly as talented

i've had 3 really awkward situations - one of them the masseurs wife was upstairs and he took be downstairs for the erotic massage; another time i had to walk past a lady (wife?) sitting in living room to use the bathroom; the strangest was when the masseurs (mother?) knocked on the door 
none of them told me there would be others there and i never went back to any of them

It wouldn’t bother me at all. But if it diminishes your experience then by all means reschedule. You are spending your money and you should be totally comfortable with the situation.  

My assumption, when I see a theragun, is that the provider DOESN'T know how to massage, and is relying on an appliance to do the work.
 

I agree with the others that if I'm hiring a masseur, I'm hiring him for his experience with giving a massage using his hands. I feel like anyone could just buy a massage gun or tool and use it and that's not really what I'm interested in.

I had an MT recently pull one out and while it felt great, I asked him if we could put it away and stick with regular Swedish massage. 
if it’s just for a minute or two it’s fine - but whether it’s a legit MT or a rentmasseur type MT, I’m hiring a massage guy - not a toy I could buy on Amazon. Touch is the point.

I also like it when I find someone on both rent sites, as it gives me a hint as to what might happen. If his escort profile says vers or bottom, bonus! The fetishes he indicates are sometimes helpful, too.  Also, if he indicates PnP, then that’s a red flag, and I avoid even a massage from the guy.

It would be foolish to expect it, but it sure is nice when the masseur jumps on it for the sheer pleasure.
I was thinking the same thing. One guy I had many years ago did a superb massage. Soon after he rolled me over, he positioned himself into 69 and swallowed me whole. That was a surprise sight and feeling I have never forgotten. Soon after that, he sat on me in a squat. I remember marveling at his leg muscles. The guy is long gone from NYC. Haven't had anyone like him since.

Since it was early in the day and I was in the Union Square area with my neck and shoulders bothering me, I decided to try East Men for the first time. It seemed that Matthew, the manager, was the only one present.  I asked for and hour massage, which he agreed to.
Although the facility was like others have previously described, (thin walls where you can hear everything going on both inside, outside, above, and next door) there weren't too many sounds that took away from the overall experience. Plus, they had music playing which masked the sounds to an extent. The first massage room, near the reception desk,  was narrow with a sliding door and became fairly dark when the door was closed.
Matthew gave me good massage combining therapeutic and very sensual elements. We went the full hour (55 minutes of massage with 5 minutes to clean up). He didn't rush at all and although we didn't talk to each other too much, he did check in to see how it felt.
What impressed me most was that he also did  a combination of aromatherapy with  acupressure techniques on my sinuses, head and neck which felt amazing. (He asked before doing it and I forgot what he called it).
I would consider returning at a later time in the day to try out some of the other guys but this experience was a solid A-/B+

There are definitely parts of town that aren't safe at night anymore.

I have to second this verdict.
Nice guy, excellent communication, good massage but something just felt "off" - perhaos that if why I forgot about the experience very soon after the appointment ended.
