  1. The 2023-24 Tony Season is about five months old, but there's already news on where and when The 77th Annual Tony Awards will take place. The date is June 16, 2024 and will be held at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. The cut-off date for eligibility is April 25, 2024 and nominees will be announced on April 30, 2024. CBS will broadcast the event live that evening. which it has been doing since 1978. Last year's event, which was adlibbed throughout the ceremony since the writer's strike was underway, has been heralded as one of the best televised awards ceremony in recent history. Without the scripts, the presenters did a fine job in keeping the show moving freely and quickly (without dull dialog or jokes which were 'DOA'. The ceremony was broadcast live from the United Palace in Washington Heights.
  2. Oh please let this be the 30th Anniversary revival of 'Sunset Blvd' which makes its way to Broadway next year ! Actress Sarah Brightman, 63, who last starred in a musical more than three decades ago in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Aspects of Love" on Broadway, will take the stage as Norma Desmond in the Australian 30th Anniversary revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Sunset Boulevard". Brightman originated the role of 'Christine' in ALW's "Phantom of the Opera" back on the West End and Broadway in the 1980s. Since leaving stage musicals in the early 1990s, she has become the world's best-selling soprano, with global sales of over 30 million, and over 1 billion streams worldwide. Directed by Paul Warwick Griffin with Set and Costume Design by Morgan Large, this revival promises to be a "lavish production" similar to the stunning sets and costumes of the original productions which opened in 1993 - 95 in London, New York, Australia, Canada and Germany. Like the original productions, the producers promise they will be bringing back the glamorous Golden Age of Hollywood to the stage. A West End '30th Anniversary Revival' is opening on October 12th in a bare-bones production directed by Jamie Lloyd. Since it opened in previews a few weeks ago, it has gotten mostly mixed reviews. The West End revival, starring Nicole Sherzinger, will close on Janaury 6, 2024. This Australian revival of Sunset Boulevard will premiere in Melbourne in May 2024 at the Princess Theatre followed by a season at the Sydney Opera House in August.
  3. I do want to point out that when his death was first announced the other day, it was also said that this allergic reaction was not due to any recent "Covid vaccine shot", nor was it "a food allergy". I guess those rumors started spinning quickly. Since then -as with the posting I have shared - those statements have disappeared. However, I did want to share everything of what was said since his death. (I recall seeing him as a frequent guest on many talk shows over the years - including 'The View', if I'm not mistaken).
  4. I guess this is some kind of publicity contest between Swift and Beyonce to prove who could be the most generous entertainer this year ? I might be the odd one out, but I believe acts of kindness and generosity should be done anonymously by entertainers as hundreds have done over the decades - not in the headlines of the entertainment pages.
  5. She may be, but that's not the thread topic. The question is 'why is she so popular ?' - not 'what kind of person does she seem to be ?'.
  6. Why would she release new music video on VHS ?
  7. Nicole Scherzinger as Norma Desmond? Yes, There’s a Connection. - The New York Times WWW.NYTIMES.COM It’s been cathartic to “create art from places of torment,” the singer-actor said ahead of the opening of “Sunset Boulevard” in London.
  8. I recall reading on another message forum not too long ago that standing O's in America started in 1981 when the iconic celebrity Lauren Bacall came to B'way to star in "Woman of the Year" after a ten year absence (1970's "Applause") . It was at a time when "older actresses" were thought past their prime in Hollywood movies, so there was always a home for them on the Broadway stage - and the audience enthusiastically welcomed them back. As more and more actors and actresses returned to B'way (Lena Horne in 'The Lady and Her Music' was around the same time) the more and more popular the standing O became (which legend doesn't like to look out and seeing a standng O ?) ...by the 1990s it was just standard practice to give a standing O to everyone.
  9. If I had to listen to 70,000 people singing every word to 3 hours of live music, I would ask for all my dimes back. I don't pay to go to concerts to hear the people sitting around me sing - I go to hear the artist sing.
  10. I think you mean the music video channel VH1. And to answer your question - it would be great if she did. She spent a great amount of time and expense on the three videos she did do back in the 80s ('Emotion', 'Left in the Dark', 'Somewhere') and each one played out like a mini-movie. Her eye for detail and perfection was obvious in each of them. The only other person I can think of from the 80s who spent so much time and money on each music video was Michael Jackson - and his videos also played out like a mini-movie, not a video. Both artists knew the medium they were working with at the time.
  11. Michael Chiarello, a celebrity chef and former Food Network star, has died. He was 61. Chiarello passed away over the weekend at the Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, California. He was being treated there for the last week for an acute allergic reaction that led to anaphylactic shock, his company Gruppo Chiarello shared in a statement obtained by The Wrap. The late chef's family also confirmed the news per the publication, "We deeply mourn the loss of our beloved patriarch Michael. His culinary brilliance, boundless creativity, and unwavering commitment to family were at the core of his being. He brought people together through the joy of shared meals, fostering lasting memories around the table." Chiarello opened his first restaurant, Tra Vigne, in Napa Valley in 1987. Over the years, he greatly expanded his reach, opening various restaurants across the state of California, generally focusing on Italian-style cuisine. He also ventured into winemaking in 1999, opening Chiarello Family Vineyards, followed shortly by his own brand, Napa Style. His television career began with his first series, Season by Season, which ran on PBS in 2000. After hosting two more series with the network, Michael Chiarello's Napa and Michael Chiarello's Napa: Casual Cooking, he moved to Food Network for Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello, which premiered in 2003. The following year, he also premiered NapaStyle on the Food Network's sister network, Fine Living Network.
  12. Ahhhh -yes! I know this competition. Never knew it was called OTEV. In any event, Jag won the HOH and hasn't decided what to do with it. He wants to take down either nominee and they can 'backdoor' Cameron, but as it stands now - Bowie the Barnacle is considering backdooring Cory instead.
  13. Let us not forget the photos from the magazine - never before published by photographer Richard Avedon (cover photo was taken on April 1, 1970 while the other photo was taken in 2018 ).
  14. Streisand's 992 page memoir is less than month away from being released (November 7), and the November issue of VANITY FAIR (out October 17) has an excerpt from it. " Barbra Streisand on ‘The Way We Were’ and Her Fight to Get It Right | Vanity Fair WWW.VANITYFAIR.COM In an exclusive from her memoir, the legend talks about Robert Redford (“great teeth”) and the scenes Sydney Pollack should never have...
  15. "Vincent" by Don MacLean (although the Jane Olivor version gets me every time, too).
  16. Thank you for the quick response! Lyonne and Judith Light (for her appearance) - definitely Emmy-winning worthy.
  17. Sorry, but "DJ Play a Christmas Song" is rather underwhelming. At 77, she needs to reinvent herself again. She's been 'vocoder Cher' for the past 25 years. I did enjoy her duet with Rosie O'Donnell on 'Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)' from 'A Very Rosie Christmas' in 1997(?). I'm curious as to what this duet with Darlene Love will sound like. She does a duet with Michael Buble (yuck) - 'Home'. I'm curious as to whether that's the song from 'The Wiz' (and it it is, Diana Ross' 1978 recording has set the bar for that one).
  18. "Same Old Lang Syne" by Dan Fogleberg. Then again, I'm not sure if there's a song he has written and recorded that hasn't gotten me emotional listening to it.
  19. Currently, I'm finishing up Season One of 'So Help Me Todd' which premiered on CBS last season, and was renewed for season 2. I DVR'd the whole season and started binging it on / off the past few weeks. Has anyone else watched this ? I've been a fan of Marcia Gay Harden for a while, and found her very entertaining in this - though she tries too hard at comedy and sometimes fails in delivering her lines. I never knew who Skyler Astin was before, but damn ! He gives me an instant boner whenever he's on screen - a great comic actor, too. The writing is clever (some episodes are misses, though) the supporting cast suffices - makes for an enjoyable hour.
  20. Barnacle Bowie Jane has decided to put up Felicia and Cirie for nominations. What a wasted HoH. Cirie has checked out of the game since her son was voted out - so now she sits around like a lummox. Why get rid of her this week ? She should have put up Cory and his beard, America.
  21. Has anyone watched the British documentary "Abercrombie Guys: The Dark Side of Cool" which premiered recently on Panorama ? Unfortunately, it's not available in the US at this time. I read reviews from British viewers who said that doc is 100 times better than this one on Netflix. Thoughts ? Does anyone know how anyone in the US can access it (any good free VPN proxy to share?) ?
  22. After hearing so much about this show, I started watching this in March - April. It was my intro to Natasha Lyonne, and I fell in love with her - what a talented actress ! I wonder if this show will pick up any Emmy Awards ? Does anyone know if any of the eps were nominated in any category ?
  23. Each morning I... Tumble out of bed And stumble to the kitchen Pour myself a cup of ambition And yawn and stretch and try to come to life Jump in the shower And the blood starts pumpin' Out on the streets, the traffic starts jumpin' For folks like me on the job from 9 to 5
  24. Bryan Fuller, the creator of shows including “Hannibal” and “American Gods,” was accused in a lawsuit on Wednesday of sexually harassing a fellow producer on an AMC docuseries about queer horror. Fuller is accused of making constant references to masturbation, engaging in casual bullying, and creating a hostile work environment. The plaintiff, Sam Wineman, alleges that Fuller also repeatedly held him from behind to “crack his back,” during which he would press his penis against Wineman’s buttocks. Fuller and Wineman are both gay. They worked together on the series “Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror,” a four-part docuseries that was released on AMC’s Shudder streaming service in 2022.
