All three of these guys have the identical generic daily gym bodies that many mobile class guys have.  But only the face in the center is pleasant. And it's nothing super. None are potential Hollywood or model material.  More like young docs or price waterhouse accountants with a good gym membership.

I’ve never met him but had a terrible impression via text. We never even got to the point of setting up an appointment. Not a match for me.

This is your assumption and this is not accurate. I travel a lot and see a lot of providers who travel and when we arrange an appointment it’s usually done before the day of. If we both have a limited schedule and want to secure time together, I will agree to paying a deposit. 
 
Think about it like this: if a provider is coming to your city and paying expenses upfront such as airfare and accommodations and I book a four hour appointment with said provider, that’s requesting they block off a chunk of his schedule and no other clients can book during that time. For both of us to feel secure, I will offer to pay that deposit. 
 
Of course, this is after I’ve done my research and have assurance the provider won’t run off with my money. 
 
If you are skeptical on paying a deposit, then that provider is not one you want to see. I’ve had several of my providers mention time wasters and other clients who book appointments and cancel without notice and then the provider can’t fill that gap in his schedule. If they only have a few days in that city, one appointment can make a significant difference. 

I’ve only been asked for deposits when I’m meeting someone for the first time. I’d they have a good rep I don’t mind doing it and I’ve never been burned. 🤞🏻

Not always.
I have had a couple of instances where the person who showed up was not the person in the advertisement photos.  They were not even close. 
How they got several five star reviews on rentmen is a mystery to me.  
So, I disagree that the client owes the money if the lying fake "escort" shows up and expects a client to go forward with the meeting merely because they meet.  
The client has the right to leave after discovering the person is not as advertised.

In the United States you pay an escort for their TIME. 
If you have sex..great ! ..but that's not what you're paying for legally. 
So if you don't like the sex you can't not pay them since they did fulfill their contract for time.
Walk away and pretend it was a bad date and you had paid for dinner and drinks.
