I had a friend (now deceased) who would never tell how old he was. My grandmother and his mother had been friends but sadly his mother suffered from dementia else I'd have asked my grandmother to talk to his mother.

But one time after he had retired I ran into him at the library. He was there to make photocopies of his birth certificate. He showed it to me. I had rightly guessed the decade but not the year. He was older than I had thought.

I can see why an escort or porn model might be but not the rest of us.

They say women are age vain but not my mother. I had an older sister. Same mother, different fathers. My sister got married the month after she turned 16. She didn't have to. She was married in January and first child was not born until the following January.

My mother was 39 when the baby was born. My mother loved telling people that she was a grandmother and only 39 because people would often tell her that she didn't look old enough to be a grandmother.

Sure I lie about my age all the time. I say I am 35 when I am really 38.

You're younger than Jack Benny then. ;-)))

I tell the truth, but I’m always pleased when many say that I don’t look that old. Not telling reminds me of a story about of friend of my parents who died at a ripe old age, but no one knew how old she was. She never told. We figured the truth would come out at her funeral when the priest spoke about her, perhaps starting with her year of birth. BUT, he started out saying, “Samantha Brooks was born…at the turn of the century…” A big disappointment. :p

A guy at the gym told me how good I looked the other day and asked how long I had been working out. I said, "Oh, forty years or so. " He seemed a little nonplussed.
