Live once. You should have no reservations about Palm Springs, there is always a place to stay. I for example. have an extra room for two nights. That said, I had four nights and a recent decider took two of the nights. There is always a bed to be found in PS, sometimes, if you are lucky, it is a single with a double and not a double with a single.

I had this same problem. I thought about converting them to digital and started to, but realized I'd never look at them (hadn't looked at any of the DVDs in years). Ended up putting them in giant trash lawn bags (black) and had a junk company haul them away with a lot of other stuff. And I think I may have tossed one bag out with the normal trash. Had around five large lawn garbage bags, maybe six. Was tens of thousands of dollars of DVDs but sometimes you just have to get rid of shit. Also I had way too much porn - that was the second big purge, the first one had a lot of VHS and some DVDs. With the Internet I've noticed I'm collecting downloads but that gets regularly deleted once in awhile.

I swear by the free section on craigslist. I had a sad moment with a HUGE pile of magazines (I turned 18 in 1998 and started buying three or four porn magazines a month until probably 2008) that I hated to just throw away and tossed it on CL...I had 20 or 30 responses and the collection went off to a good home. Ive done the same with old mattresses, clothes, just about anything.
