Stella's was definitely my bar of choice - must have been during the 90s, right? i was quite young but really liked the rough "urban" guys who hung there, and made a few close friends there from amongst them... most ended up in jail for some time when i knew them, and i often helped their wives/girlfriends/kids (not monetarily....)

 

I used to stay at the Edison Hotel just up the street. It was so convenient to come in and peruse the choices and then head back to the hotel. Memories.

RE THE TOWNHOUSE; The saddest thang is when you "transition" lol. An older dude first took me there like 20yrs ago when I was in my 20's. (they do keep it upscale, frown on or don't let it the boys in shorts/tank tops etc) but back then I could get away with a tight T-shirt inder a jacket which I'd remove, LOVED hanging in the FRONT room talking to the boys and on occasion got offers myself lol. NOW, I've transition into the "back" room amidst the more martini-sipping "distinguished" gentlemen in jackets and ties swaying to the piano player's showtunes. The salad days of a front room of boys to choose from are kind of gone, if they're any there they're outnumbered 25-1. They HAVE of late started doing Buff Daddy club stripper nights in the TINYYYYYYYY downstairs bar room, for a small cover charge to enter, like 10 bucks. G-string style like across the St at (???) forget the name. But it's SO small size of a NYC bedroom, went down there once when upstairs was pretty crowded, down there I was one of THREE ppl in that room with one dancer on a soapbox a few feet away.

Stella's was for pick-ups. It seemed that the dancers at Cats weren't necessarily available for anything but lap dances. I'm sure there were exceptions. I never tried at the bar. It was always so packed. An escort I hired took me there for the 1st time. Real dive, but I enjoyed it too.

 

There were exceptions, trust me ;)

hell YEAH.... but never went there because it was 1) in midtown (i never travelled north of 14th street), and 2) it wasn't the Ninth Circle!

Anyone here old enough to remember the Haymarket on Eighth Avenue in NYC? It was not to be missed.

 

Heard of it, but never went. Where on 8th Ave? Was it a leather bar?

It was located on Eighth Avenue at about 50th Street. It was not a leather bar. Very casual mixed bag.

 

And you didn’t even need to go in. I got hustled right in front of it midday. I declined. The guy was clearly high and not my type (although the price was right as I recall).

It is 18:15 I in a Thursday night and I am inside the Townhouse. Not a single rentable guy in sight.

 

Also I am feeling too young for the place :)

 

I don’t think I am going even to buy a cocktail, that would just be a waste of time.

Think like MUCH or the world today, Rentboys have also gone "paperless" lol. You USED to be able to actually SEE the hard copy, browse in real-time before you bought, sadly the cyber world seems to have taken THAT over too.

Sorry, assumed that you would have gleaned from the fact that it did turn into nothing but reminiscencent responses that the answer is "no". I'm a native born n raised live in heart of Manhattan and I can concur again, the answer is "no" :-( Your best bet as far as boys you can see in the flesh who may also be "working" are the bars that host dancers like Adonis nites or BuffDaddy nites where the boys give lap dances and you can "ask" if they do "private shows" etc. (be prepared to wait till 2am for them to be free)

The current gen of boys consider it way too ghetto (and passe') to lean against a wall plying their trade like the old days when that or a street corner was their only opt when they can do it online. PS you CAN still on occasion find a boy in the front room at the Townhouse, it IS hit n miss, like said I was there recently and there was literally ONE, but a friend went on the weekend and said there were like 4 or 5. But, again, slim pickens compared to the old days;
