I have just received the noticed with the appointment for my naturalization oath, in the second week of October. I am almost a citizen, biotch. The notices stresses that it is a solemn ceremony and I should attend accordingly dressed up.

Congratulations! My nephew (Shawn) on my late husband's side of the family married a Cuban man (Robert) last year. Shawn is in the USAF and they currently live in the UK. Two weeks ago they flew into Cincinnati, where Shawn was born and raised, for Robert's naturalization. Robert had his interview/test and naturalization on the same day. We helped him prepare for it the night before, and he passed with flying colors. I'm so glad I was able to be there for this joyful event. I hope many of your loved ones will be able to share this moment with you.

I know a few people who are green card holders and I'm always urging them to apply for citizenship so that they can have full rights like voting, etc. Maybe if I tell them it doesn't take too long, they'll be more inclined to start listening to my advice...

The ordeal was getting the green card. Citizenship was easy. I applied on January, had my interview 2 weeks ago, and yesterday I got my appointment for the final oath. In order to be able to apply, you need 5 years of permanent residency (green card).
